Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and three-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes had an honest apology for his Buffalo Bills counterpart Josh Allen. Mahomes and the Chiefs defeated the Bills for the fourth time in the playoffs in the past five years to advance to their third straight Super Bowl.
On a wild Sunday, the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs played a close game to find out the AFC champion of the 2024 season. Josh Allen and the Bills put up a valiant effort – Allen completing 64.7% of his passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns. However, it wasn’t enough to save them from the heartbreaking loss.
In the post game media interaction, Mahomes admitted that he feels sorry that the Chiefs and himself are once again playoff roadblocks for the Bills via Michael Silver of The Athletic.
Later, Patrick Mahomes went on to express that he considers Allen as a friend. He also heaped praises on the 28-year-old Californian calling him one of the best quarterbacks in the league, via Albert Breer.

Mahomes and Allen have faced off nine times including the regular season and postseason – Mahomes leads narrowly with five wins. Four of Mahomes’ five wins against Allen have come in the playoffs, whereas Allen won all four times in the regular season. The Bills achieved the rare feat of winning a playoff game in each of the last five seasons without making the Super Bowl.
The Buffalo Bills need to get more dangerous for a Super Bowl run
The Buffalo Bills are very close to being a Super Bowl-winning team: they have a stellar quarterback and continuity on the offensive line. The Bills, who were undermined throughout the season, have a well-coached roster with enough amp to be a fear factor for many teams.
The Bills, however, need to strengthen their roster to make a deeper playoff run. While Josh Allen is a proven talent-elevator with a collection of competent-to-good passing-game options around him, there’s still untapped potential for both Allen and the team as a whole.
With a strong run game already in place, we’ve seen flashes of how high this team can soar. However, reaching the next level requires more than just relying on Allen’s brilliance.
Their challenge lies in addressing this need during an offseason that presents limited options. The free-agent receiver market is aging, and the upcoming draft class is rumored to lack the depth and star power of recent years. The Bills will need to be creative and strategic in identifying upgrades—whether that’s developing current players, making savvy trades, or uncovering hidden gems in free agency and the draft.
