Every year the ESPYS honors those who have achieved incredible success in their respective fields of sports. Playing in the NFL means superstars get to showcase their incredible athletic abilities to the world. One such athlete is Patrick Mahomes. His exploits with the Kansas City Chiefs helped him beat the likes of Shohei Ohtani, Scottie Scheffler and Connor McDavid to win one of the most prestigious awards at the ESPYs on Thursday.

Patrick Mahomes won the award for Best Male Athlete award at the 2024 ESPYs. The 3-time Super Bowl champion took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, to send a special message to his fans after his achievement.

He beat out the biggest superstars of American sports to win his second straight ESPYS win. He added a few words after thanking the ESPYS and his fans:

This message was for head coach Andy Reid, who accepted the honor on his behalf. Reid spoke about what he has seen in his quarterback as he has grown to be a dominant superstar.

The likes of MLB superstar Shohei Ohtani, PGA Champion golfer Scottie Scheffler and the best NHL payer Connor McDavid were serious company for Mahomes. Beating them all out to win this award speaks a lot about what the superstar has achieved this past year.

As Andy Reid pointed out, it was not just winning another Super Bowl, or the Super Bowl MVP award. It was also a testament to the work he does off the field, especially for the community.

Patrick Mahomes took another ESPYs home

The Best Male Athlete award was not the only trophy that went to the Mahomes household on the night. He also won the Best NFL Player award. To this he sent out another message, posting:

He won the honor, beating out the likes of Christian McCaffrey, Lamar Jackson and Myles Garrett. That sure is a pretty amazing company to beat out.

Last season the Chiefs were awarded the best team at the ESPYs. This time they were in the running again for the award but were beaten by the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team. Else, it would have been three awards for the Kansas City Chiefs tonight.

If they manage to become the first team in NFL history to 3-peat, they can assure themselves of winning that ESPYs team award again.

Patrick Mahomes should also be in the running for a third straight Best Athlete Award if that happens. Quite a lot of silverware for the 3-time Super Bowl MVP, further cementing his legacy as one of the best sports personalities ever.
