It appears Patrick Mahomes Sr. has settled his legal battle on the charge of Driving While Intoxicated ahead of his son’s upcoming NFL season. On Tuesday, as he was scheduled for a jury trial, he pleaded guilty to the felony charges of DWI after being arrested in Texas, earlier this year in February.
As per local TV outlets KLTV, the Kansas City Chiefs superstar’s father has agreed to a five-year probation with “intense” supervision for the first year. If convicted in the trial in Smith County, Texas, he would have to serve a ten-year imprisonment sentence and a $10,000 fine imposed on the third-degree felony charges, as stated in the state law.
The date for elder Mahomes’ former sentence was scheduled for September 23, which would be stretched to a few weeks of the regular season. But on the advice of his attorney, he decided to enter into guilty plea, given it was his third DWI charge as per the court records.
Today, Mr. Mahomes entered a guilty plea in his case pursuant to a written plea agreement. Our client is now living a sober life, and we believe that the steps he has taken to better his life helped us achieve a plea recommendation for probation.Mahomes Sr.’s attorney, Joseph D. Murphy told to NBC News
In his previous DWI charge, the former MLB pitcher served an imprisonment sentence of 40 days in 2018 after pleading guilty to the charges in Texas. However, this time, it appears fans don’t seem to like his guilty plea and reduced sentence on the third DWI.
As one fan wrote, “How hard can it be to order a Uber. your son is a multi millionaire,” while another claimed, “Nothing can stop this man from getting behind the wheel.”
Here are some of the fan reactions.
Patrick Mahomes Sr. shares sobriety milestone with support from his family
Just eight days after his son won his second consecutive Super Bowl trophy, elder Mahomes got arrested in Texas after a traffic stop for his third DWI. As per the incident report, he had “a visible open container of an alcoholic beverage” and also admitted to the police officers of consuming alcohol.
After this incident, the 54-year-old decided to become sober and just three weeks ago, he celebrated six months of sobriety. He shared a social media post with a picture of himself with MLB star Pete Rose.

He expressed his gratitude to his friends and family for helping him walk “on the sunny side of the road” for the last six months. But after he pleaded guilty, there remains a chance that he might have to face a severe penalty, considering this is his third DWI and he was imprisoned in his previous guilty plea in 2018.
