To an NFL player with two league MVPs and three Super Bowl rings in his decorated career, Madden ratings may seem very insignificant. And yet that’s not true in Patrick Mahomes‘ case.

In the latest edition of EA Sports’ football video game, the company evaluated Mahomes as 95 overall. The Kansas City Chiefs star reacted to his rating during a recent press conference.

I like playing Madden, so I would like to be rated higher, but I’ve got to play and showcase that stuff on the field. I believe that if I go out there and play the football I want to play, we can get to 99 pretty quickly.

Mahomes used to be part of the 99 OVR club, but EA doesn’t seem to hold the same view at the moment, as evident from the Madden 26 ratings. The 29-year-old is currently the fourth-best-rated quarterback in the game behind reigning MVP Josh Allen, 2x league MVP Lamar Jackson, and last year’s triple crown winner (led in pass completion, passing yards, and touchdowns), Joe Burrow.

2024 didn’t pan out as Mahomes would have liked. Despite finishing 15-1 in the regular season and winning the AFC Championship game by defeating the Bills, the Chiefs tasted defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Chiefs played without key figures in the offense. Rashee Rice, Hollywood Brown, and Isiah Pacheco were injured. Travis Kelce played like he was 35 years old. They recorded the most one-score wins compared to other teams.

Retired NFL wide receiver Julian Edelman claimed that Mahomes deserves a 99 on Madden for leading a depleted Chiefs team to the Super Bowl.

How is Patrick Mahomes not a 99? He literally had a depleted team last year. All of his receivers were hurt. His offensive line got shattered. They had two losses last year. They go to the Super Bowl for a threepeat. This guy is not a 99. I think that’s crazy. He is still the best player in football. Josh Allen and Lamar still haven’t beaten him like when it mattered. He didn’t even have the teams.

Madden ratings are just a fleeting note in the grand scheme of things. Winning the Super Bowl for a fourth time is Mahomes’ goal, and he believes the Chiefs are very capable of becoming the victors once more.

It’s hard. When you lose a Super Bowl, I think there are sometimes in those workouts, you may be a little tired, you have that extra added motivation to finish even harder, finish even stronger.
