Travis Kelce is not getting any younger. In fact, the star tight end will hit 36 by the second month of the 2025 season. He is not showing any signs of slowing down, but how long can he continue to deliver results at his best?
According to sources close to the All-Pro player, he was close to hanging up his boots after the Chiefs’ 40-22 defeat at Super Bowl 59.
Kelce dismissed the rumors by announcing that he will play for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2025. The Chiefs fans are thrilled to see one of the best players ever suit up for another year. However, the thought of Kelce’s retirement has to be lingering in their minds.
The Chiefs began their OTAs this week. Kelce also returned along with the other bigwigs of the locker room. After Thursday’s practice, reporters asked quarterback Patrick Mahomes to give an update on buddy Travis Kelce’s retirement plans.
Mahomes, with a straight face, revealed, “If it’s [Travis Kelce’s] the last ride, you would never know.”
He further added that Kelce is as enthusiastic about talking and playing football as he has ever been in the past.
The way [Travis is] talking about football, the way he’s talking about working and trying to be even better this year than he was last year. He doesn’t seem like a guy that it’s his last ride, like he’s tired of the job.

The 2024 season ended on a sour note for Kelce. He took a step back due to his off-field commitments, but still gave his all to secure the three-peat. However, for the first time since 2015, his production went below 900 yards, and yet he led the Chiefs’ receivers in both receptions and yards.
What did Travis Kelce say about his retirement rumors?
If anyone wants to know what is happening in the lives of the Kelce family, they should tune into the New Heights podcast. It is a show where Travis and his older brother, retired Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, share their views on the latest trends and gossip.

After the loss in February against the Eagles, Kelce hopped onto his podcast to clarify his stance on retirement.
We’re back at it for at least one more year… I can’t say whether or not this is going to be the last year because I still love a lot of what I do for the city of Kansas City and the Chiefs organization. I know I’ve got one on my contract, and I’m gonna give you everything I’ve got, baby.

Kelce broke a couple of records last campaign. He broke legendary wide receiver Jerry Rice’s reception record in the postseason. Rice caught 151 passes during his long career. Kelce went past him and is currently the leader with 178 receptions in the playoffs.
Kelce also owns the record for most catches in Super Bowls (35). Previously, he overtook Chiefs legend Tony Gonzalez as the Chiefs’ all-time leading receiver. In 175 appearances for the AFC West team, Kelce caught 1004 passes for 12,151 yards and scored 77 touchdowns.
The Chiefs play three preseason games against the Cardinals, Seahawks, and Bears. Andy Reid’s team is set to kick off their regular season campaign away at SoFi Stadium against the divisional rivals, the Los Angeles Chargers.
