Dominance in sports often comes at a price. For the Kansas City Chiefs, their sustained excellence has turned them into a polarizing force in the NFL. Some see them as a dynasty in the making, while others are simply tired of seeing them win.

Following their AFC Championship victory, tight end Travis Kelce openly embraced the “villain” narrative, relishing the role of the team that people love to hate. Meanwhile, quarterback Patrick Mahomes took a more pragmatic stance, acknowledging the label but standing firm in the team’s identity and approach.

I don’t even think it’s embracing being the villains. We embrace who we are, and we believe we play the game the right way. We believe that we play with a lot of heart and a lot of passion for the game and then we win football games. If winning football games makes you a villain, we’re gonna keep going out there and doing it.

Mahomes admitted that he hated the Patriots as a childhood fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Mahomes, who was born in Texas is an ardent fan of anyone who played for the city. He highlighted that he understands how hard it is to perform up to expectations.

It’s funny because I was that guy. As a kid I was a Cowboys fan and hated the Patriots. Now I appreciate more the greatness of the great Patriots because I see how hard it was to do what they did.

Furthermore, Mahomes pointed out that hatred can also be a factor in motivating the players to perform better. He even admits that it has made them stronger.

When people are against you, you become a brotherhood, we know we are doing it the right way and we can achieve it time and time again if we are united on the pitch and with our supporters; it’s us against everyone else.

Despite the criticism, the Chiefs remain focused on their ultimate goal: winning another Super Bowl. If they manage to pull off a three-peat this weekend, the frustration from their haters will only intensify. But as Mahomes and Kelce have made clear, the Chiefs have no intention of changing who they are or how they play the game.
