Patrick Mahomes was casually stepping out in his shorts on an offseason to celebrate the 249th year of independence of the United States on July 4th. Little did the three-time champion know that when he shared a picture from the day’s activities, he would somehow create one of the hottest debates of the offseason.

It was a happy post until a Kansas City podcast host, Kevin Kietzman, lashed out against Mahomes. The former 810 radio host went on a brutal fat-shaming rampage on the quarterback on his podcast, Kevin Kietzman Has Issues. Kietzman claimed that Mahomes is brutally out of shape and asked him to do a “sit-up or something”. Furthermore, he alluded that the player has been on a Taco Bell diet.

The verbal attack hasn’t been well-received by the media. And now Mahomes’ trainer Bobby Stroupe has also come out looking for blood. In a now-deleted thread on X, Stroupe fired out against Kietzman.

The father of three reportedly challenged the host to make it through a practice at training camp or run back-to-back plays under high pressure. He also reportedly noted that the game is not about looks but performance.

Send me your location. You obviously need attention. If you want to see what in shape is — go make it through a practice at training camp or run hurry-up offense scrambling back to back to back plays. You don’t have a clue what it takes. It’s not a look, it’s performance.

Kietzman has hit back at Stroupe in an episode released two days ago. He called Stroupe “a great democratic politician” while noting that Stroupe is the first personal trainer to claim that belly fat is good. He has also not backed down from his initial comments, noting that he wishes Mahomes looks more like Tom Brady in his successive years rather than Ben Roethlisberger.

The radio host isn’t in the headlines with controversial statements for the first time. In 2019, Kietzman was fired by 810 radio after he claimed that Andy Reid, the Chiefs’ coach, had trouble disciplining his squad.

He further noted that the coach had the same issues with his family life, which several people assumed was a reference to Garrett Reid, Andy’s son, who OD’d in 2012. Although Kietzman later claimed that it referred to Britt Reid, the damage was done. Britt served jail time in 2007 and made his way to the Chiefs’ defensive coaching lineup.

Why is Bobby Stroupe far more qualified to defend Patrick Mahomes’ lifestyle?

Last year, Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady, from whom the former is currently getting advice, had a sit-down where they discussed many factors, including body fat in quarterbacks. The former admitted that the dad bod helps him in throwing better at fly, while Brady agreed that a less lean figure helps in absorbing the hits.

Bobby Stroupe had defended Mahomes then, adding that a 14% body fat is good for quarterbacks. The admission doesn’t stem from blind loyalty. He has over two decades of expertise in elite athletic development. As the founder and president of APEC (Athlete Performance Enhancement Center), Stroupe has trained hundreds of top-tier athletes, including more than 100 currently active in the NFL and MLB.

Stroupe’s résumé includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from SOSU. Furthermore, he holds a plethora of certifications from the likes of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, the Gray Institute, and USA Weightlifting. He is also highly trained in speed, agility, and neuroscience-based performance.
