Patrick Mouratoglou has revealed one aspect of the game where Carlos Alcaraz is better than Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic on the court. However, he did admit that the two tennis legends are more consistent than the Spaniard. This comes weeks after Alcaraz reached back-to-back Grand Slam finals.

Alcaraz has dominated men’s tennis this season, winning five tour-level titles already. The 22-year-old has also won three of the last seven Grand Slams with his arch-rival Jannik Sinner claiming the other four. His only Grand Slam title this year came at the French Open in June, when he came from two sets down to beat the Italian star.

However, one of Alcaraz’s major skills on the court has been his use of a variety of shots during matches. The World No.2 is known to be unpredictable on the court and, on most occasions, tries to hit drop shots, which always deceive his opponent.

Djokovic and Nadal are reputable for being very consistent on the court. Their immaculate display has seen them break records, while also winning a combined 46 Grand Slam titles on tour. Also, both legends lead Alcaraz in their head-to-head record, with Djokovic holding a 5-3 lead and Nadal 2-1.

Mouratoglou revealed during the Ultimate Tennis Showdown event in Guadalajara, Mexico, that Alcaraz plays an attractive style of tennis, but Djokovic and Nadal are more consistent on the court than the Spaniard. He added during his interview with Tennis365 that Alcaraz does ‘different things’ when playing which makes his style interesting:

If you look at Alcaraz, for example, he’s more of a puncher, but I think it’s very interesting too because he can do so many different things and he does everything so well. He drop shots, he comes to the net, unbelievable power, unbelievable touch, he can return, volley, and he does all this in a match…It’s never boring; something happens all the time. Of course, he’s not as consistent as Rafa and Novak at their peak, or Sinner now, who’s incredibly consistent, but he’s more fiery.

Alcaraz has won 34 of his last 36 matches. His two losses came against Holger Rune at the Barcelona Open final and against Sinner in the Wimbledon Championships final. At the Grand Slam event, he held a 20-match unbeaten run before failing to win the title for the third consecutive time after losing to the Italian star in four sets.

Patrick Mouratoglou says Carlos Alcaraz’s unique body type gives him an advantage on the court

Carlos Alcaraz has a different body type in the men’s circuit. His competitors, such as Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz, and Daniil Medvedev, are taller and thinner than the Spaniard. When Alcaraz made his professional debut, he was thin like most of the players on tour, but two years later, his physique matured and is comparatively more muscular than a majority of the stars.

During the aforementioned interview, Patrick Mouratoglou pointed out these features saying that Alcaraz’s body type also adds a unique style to his game on the court:

Look at the top guys, I mean there is one exception, Carlos Alcaraz, but all the other guys, whether it’s Djokovic, Sinner, [Alexander] Zverev, [Stefanos] Tsitsipas, [Daniil] Medvedev. I mean all the guys are really thin, very tall. Huge serve, huge power! Because when you’re able to accelerate at the same speed as someone who is smaller but with longer arms, I mean the ball goes much faster.

Alcaraz is not competing at the ongoing Canadian Open after withdrawing from the tournament before it kicked off. He’s expected to compete at the Cincinnati Open, which starts on August 7 and will feature at the US Open, where he will hope to reach the final for the second time in his career.
