Patrick Mouratoglou disagrees with Iga Swiatek‘s views that fans inside the court should quietly watch a rally between the players and not shout. The French coach expressed his thoughts over the matter after Swiatek complained of disturbance during her battle against Naomi Osaka.
After the match, Swiatek revealed that the screams from spectators frustrated her when she missed a volley, calling the French crowd “harsh“. Backing her, Russia’s Daniil Medvedev claimed that playing at Roland Garros is more difficult than other tournaments because of the loud crowd. Mouratoglou, however, wants the fans to keep expressing themselves.

She said she was not happy with the fact that some people in the crowd were expressing themselves during the rallies. Of course, we asked people not to do it, but everyone knows tennis. Not everyone realizes that it can be disturbing. Not everyone can control themselves during this point. They are excited and, in a way, it's cool. There is a great atmosphere.Patrick Mouratoglou said in a video he uploaded on Facebook
Prior to the Swiatek incident, Belgium’s David Goffin accused a fan of spitting chewing gum at him during his first-round match against local favorite Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Mouratoglou said though he wants the fans to create an enthralling atmosphere, he is against them crossing the limit, requesting them not to disrespect players.
Naomi Osaka doesn’t have any problem with the French crowd
When Naomi Osaka was asked in the press conference about Iga Swiatek‘s comments, she said she likes playing in front of the French crowd. At the same time, the Japanese said she is used to playing at the US Open, which according to some players, have the loudest fans.

I thought the crowd was really cool. These are the moments that I work for. I didn’t have a problem with the crowd at all. But I’m used to the New York crowd.Naomi Osaka said
Swiatek, who usually beats her opponents without much effort, survived an Osaka scare. After winning the second set 6-1, the four-time Grand Slam champion from Japan would have beaten the defending champion as she was leading in the third set as well.
Swiatek recovered and displayed why she is considered a force to be reckoned with on clay as she ended the match in her favor, winning with a scoreline of 7-6(7-1), 1-6, 7-5. The Pole then defeated Marie Bouzkova in straight sets 6-4, 6-2, and is set to face Anastasia Potapova in the fourth round.
