Players typically avoid talking ill about their former teams, but Patrick Queen prefers a different approach. The star linebacker does not hold back from letting everyone know how things went bad for him in the Baltimore Ravens, which forced him to leave and join their rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Queen departed the Ravens, who drafted him in the first round of 2020, earlier this year in March, and joined the Steelers in a three-year contract worth $41 million. The Pro Bowler has always been open about the strained relationship with the Ravens, engaging in trash-talking them throughout the offseason.

With the Steelers and Ravens scheduled to face off on the coming Sunday, Week 11, the Second-team All-Pro seized another opportunity to bring out the subject of Baltimore during his conversation. Queen, who’s embracing being the villain in Steelers-Ravens rivalry, reflected on his infamous departure from Baltimore.

I wasn’t wanted back. I didn’t get an offer [to go] back. It was definitely kind of upsetting being there for four years and the bond that you grow with your teammates. For the first few months, you definitely go through those feelings… I will have feelings. Anybody in my position would this week.

Patrick Queen told Pittsburgh reporters

Since extending linebacker Roquan Smith, and defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike in lucrative deals, the Ravens did not have the salary cap to offer Queen the number he deserved. However, considering the season he had with them that earned him his first Pro Bowl selection, his anger for not getting an offer– let alone a deserving one, seems justified.

Given, that it hadn’t been a long time since Queen parted ways with his original team in the league, his wounds are still fresh. That’s why, he is approaching the upcoming game from a vengeful mindset, eager to show Baltimore that they made a mistake in letting him go.

I just had to look in the mirror and just say I had to get back to myself. I’ve been getting better these last few weeks. I just got to raise that standard.

Queen also shared that he hasn’t contacted head coach John Harbaugh and General Manager Eric DeCosta since March, after signing with the Steelers. However, he is still in touch with linebacker Smith but not expecting any messages from him or anyone ahead of their coming match.
