When linebacker Patrick Queen signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he proved he wasn’t playing in the NFL for money. As he turned down more money that he could have been making in the upcoming seasons– all to play with the Steelers.
Queen parted ways with the Baltimore Ravens and signed a three-year deal with their AFC North divisional rivals Steelers worth $41 million including $13.84 guaranteed. The star linebacker’s deal had nothing to do with his performance, given he was coming off a Pro Bowl bid season and his first second-team All-Pro nomination.
The reason why Queen chose the Steelers despite the less money is because he believes he can win a championship with them. So he turned down all those multiple offers and bought the black and yellow jersey.
From all the 15 teams that I was talking to, it came down to like five at the end--It was just like five teams in the mix. Some of them were offering some $17 [million per year]. After that it was like, I have a chance to either go win or I have a chance to get paid. For me, the difference was like $4 or $5 million.Patrick Queen said during his recent appearance on Steelers_DB YouTube Channel
The star linebacker highlighted that his prime focus at the moment is to win and he didn’t want to be part of a losing team or a rebuilding team. So he chose Pittsburgh to win the championship and will worry about getting paid later.
Patrick Queen’s quest for AFC North supremacy
Among all four AFC North teams, the only one who didn’t make the playoffs last season was the Cincinnati Bengals. Given, that it is known to be one of the most dominating divisions across the league, if Queen has a chance of winning anywhere within the division, as per him, it is with the Steelers.

However, the Steelers are not enlisted among the Super Bowl contenders so far, while his former team, the Ravens are the division favorite with +140 odds, as per Vegas Insider.
On the other hand, the Steelers haven’t seen a losing season in the 17-year tenure of head coach Mike Tomlin. Therefore, Queen might need to walk an extra mile but he can potentially make the Steelers contenders again, who have also made some significant changes in the offensive line.
