This week, Patrick Reed became the latest big name to leave LIV Golf. Following his exit, the 9-time PGA Tour winner has set his sights on making it to the Ryder Cup squad in 2027 and play at the Adare Manor in Ireland.

Last week, Reed was playing at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. Before this event, the 2018 Masters Champion revealed that he had not renewed his deal with LIV Golf. He later expressed that he would love to play on the PGA Tour and called it the “best tour” in the world.

The American international went on to win the DP World Tour event on Sunday. After scores of 69, 66 and 67 in the first three rounds, he fired a score of 72 in the final round and finished 4 strokes ahead of runner-up Andy Sullivan.

Three days after his victory in Dubai, Reed left LIV Golf. In a post on his social media accounts, the 35-year-old expressed that he would be returning to the tour in 2027 as a past champion and was eligible to play in the later events from August this year.

Following his exit from LIV Golf, he is now eyeing a return to the Ryder Cup. In an interview with Today’s Golfer, Reed claimed that he would do everything in his power to book his place in Ireland.

We’re going to do everything in our power to get there in Ireland.

Reed, who earned the moniker of “Captain America” for his dominant performances in the Ryder Cup in 2014 and 2016, has not been part of this event since 2018. In 3 appearances, he has a 7-3-2 record.

Following a stunning 3rd place finish at the Masters Tournament last year, he failed to capitalize on his momentum. He missed the cut at the PGA Championship and the Open Championship. His victory at LIV Golf Dallas also failed to grab the attention of captain Keegan Bradley.

The Americans did not have the best of starts to the 2025 event. The first two days saw the Europeans dominate them in their own backyard. Despite a valiant fightback on Sunday, Team USA suffered a second successive Ryder Cup defeat.

Patrick Reed reportedly passed on a new deal with LIV Golf

After the departure of Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed became the latest big name to leave LIV Golf. It seems that Reed had already made up his mind to leave, as new reports claim that the league was ready to meet his demands.

As per The Telegraph, the Saudi-backed tour did meet his demands. However, it was Reed who passed upon the deal.

This development also comes after the league was able to renew the contract of Dustin Johnson, who was Reed’s teammate in 4Aces GC. The 2020 Masters Champion would agree to extend his stay and pen down a new deal until 2029.

For now, Reed will play on the DP World Tour. With him now being an Honorary Lifetime Member, he will spend the majority of the 2026 season on the European tour.

This week is playing at the Bahrain Championship. He has also committed himself to the Qatar Masters tournament next week, making it his 4th successive DP World Tour start.
