On Wednesday, the LIV Golf suffered another massive blow as Patrick Reed announced his departure. The 2018 Masters Champion took to his social media accounts to reveal his exit. A golf insider would later call this a “great day” for the PGA Tour.

Reed found his name in headlines last week after revealing he had not renewed his contract with LIV Golf. During the press conference of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, the American international expressed that he would love to play on the PGA Tour if he were allowed and called it the “best tour” in the world.

Later that week, he went on to win the event. Following scores of 69, 66 and 67 in the first three rounds, he found himself in a good position to win. Despite carding a score of 72 in the final round, Reed emerged as the winner, finishing 4 strokes ahead of runner-up Andy Sullivan.

Three days after winning in Dubai, Reed announced his exit from LIV Golf. Taking to his social media accounts, the 35-year-old expressed that he will be returning to compete regularly on the PGA Tour in 2027 as a past champion. He is also eligible to compete in later events of the tour this year.

I am excited to announce that I am returning to the PGA TOUR as a past champion member for the 2027 season and am eligible to begin competing in PGA TOUR events later this year.

Brandel Chamblee would later share his reaction to this. The veteran insider, who has taken swipes at LIV Golf in the past, would claim this a “great day” for the PGA Tour and a “bad day” for the Saudi-funded tour.

It is nice to have people come back… There is sort of a Rory (McIlroy)–Patrick Reed rivalry that, you know, sort of maybe it’s been dormant for the last few years. Maybe that comes back. But there is no question that they are interesting players, and it’s a bad day for LIV and a great day for the PGA Tour.

This development comes just a few days after Brooks Koepka officially returned to the PGA Tour. The 5-time major champion stunned the world in December last month when he left the LIV Golf circuit.

Two weeks after leaving them, Koepka was reinstated on the tour through the Returning Member Program. Reed, however, is ineligible for this as the criteria require the player to have won either The Players Championship or any one of the 4 majors from 2022 to 2025.

Reed was a member of the 4Aces GC team and competed alongside Dustin Johnson. While the 2020 Masters Champion renewed his deal and remained with them, Reed did not and brought an end to a 4-year stay with LIV Golf on Wednesday.

PGA Tour star claims dominoes are falling for LIV Golf following departures of Patrick Reed and Brooks Koepka

Patrick Reed followed in the footsteps of Brooks Koepka on Wednesday and announced leaving LIV Golf. A PGA Tour would later claim that the dominoes are starting to fall for the breakaway tour.

Ahead of his title defense at the Farmers Insurance Open this week, Harris English claimed that maybe the LIV Golfers had started to realize that the grass was not greener on the other side.

I knew the Brooks thing was coming by some of his comments. I didn’t know it was going to happen this quickly. The dominoes are starting to fall. Maybe those guys on the LIV Tour are not that happy out there and the grass is not greener on the other side.

Apart from Reed, golfers Kevin Na and Hudson Swafford had also applied to be reinstated to the tour. Along with Pat Perez, Swafford will be eligible to return on January 1, 2027. Na’s date of return has not been confirmed yet.

Meanwhile, the likes of Cameron Smith, Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau are not expected to use the Returning Member Program before the February 2 deadline.

LIV Golf’s 5th season will begin on February 4 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This will be the first LIV event to feature 72 holes as they adapted to this format in the offseason.
