In recent times, the NHL and its officials have received a lot of flak for the nature of their calls on the subject of goaltender interference. This topic once again became the talking point as legendary goaltender and New York Islanders coach Patrick Roy was left confused by the rules.
During the game against the Seattle Kraken on Saturday night, the Islanders found themselves level at 2-2 with less than four minutes remaining in the third period. In this, Brandon Tanev, the Kraken star was seen battling with Isaiah George in the crease.
As Jamie Oleksiak took a shot from long range, it appeared that Tanev made some contact with Islanders’ goaltender Ilya Sorokin. The puck would deflect off the pad of Sorokin and found its way into the net to give the Kraken a 3-2 lead.

Roy would challenge this decision later on. However, the officials did not rule in his favor and the goal stood leaving him shaking his head. In the end, this became the main difference as Kraken won the game 3-2.
Following the game, the 59-year-old took a dig at the NHL officials. Roy, who sits third in the number of wins as a goaltender in the NHL, claimed they were “robbed” by the officials.
He went in by himself, he bumped into our goalie while the puck was coming, and apparently there’s enough and not enough in our league, so… we got robbed? Yeah… Somebody’s going to have to explain to me what’s enough and not enough. You’re in the crease or you’re not in the crease by yourself. You bump into the goalie or you don’t bump into the goalie. It’s the first time I ever heard that. I guess I didn’t play enough games.

Patrick Roy backs Islanders following 3-2 loss against Kraken
The New York Islanders entered this game on the back of an emphatic 5-2 victory against the Vancouver Canucks. However, they were unable to win back-to-back games as a late goal saw them drop the game 3-2 against Kraken. Despite the loss, coach Patrick Roy was happy with his team’s performance and backed them.

In the post-game conference, Roy stated that his team defended well except for the second and played a solid road game. He spoke about the first two goals conceded but refused to make any further comments on the third one.
I love my team tonight. We played a strong game. We played a solid road game. I thought we had our chance. I thought we possessed the puck. I thought we defended well, except maybe for the second goal where we had a bit of a miscommunication, but the first goal is a bad luck… and I’m not going to talk about the third goal.
