Ahead of a big second season with the New England Patriots, running back TreVeyon Henderson finds himself surrounded by controversy. Henderson voiced his support for Jaden Ivey’s statement on the NBA celebrating Pride Month.
The celebration of the LGBTQ community gained significant attention during Bill Clinton’s presidency, although pride marches have been occurring since the 1970s. However, it wasn’t until the 2016 NBA season that the league began actively promoting inclusivity for the LGBTQ+ community.
As of now, 25 out of 30 NBA teams actively host Pride Nights, demonstrating a commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion, including rainbow-themed team logos. The Chicago Bulls are one of them.
Jaden Ivey, who had been with the Bulls since 2022, spoke out against the team and the league’s policy and was waived this week. TreVeyon Henderson tweeted in support of the 24-year-old free agent guard by quoting from Matthew 5:10:
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

As a devout Christian, he holds religious beliefs that oppose homosexuality and the existence of the LGBTQ community. He sparked controversy with a video message that seemed to be filmed inside a moving vehicle.
That the world can proclaim LBGTQ Right? They proclaim Pride Month and the NBA; [they proclaim it]. They show it to the world. They say come, come, uh, come join us for Pride. For Pride Month. To celebrate unrighteousness. They proclaim it. They proclaim it on the billboards. They proclaim it in the streets. Unrighteousness. So how is it that one can’t, can’t speak righteousness? How are they to say that, uh, you, you, ‘Man, this man is crazy,’.

In another tweet, Henderson referenced three different scriptures: John 10:20, Mark 9:7, and Matthew 10:25. He ended the tweet with a thought-provoking message, “The world calls us crazy, but God calls us Sons and Daughters.”
The world said this about Jesus.

“Some said, “He’s demon possessed and out of his mind. Why listen to a man like that?”
John 10:20
God The Father said this to Jesus.
“Then a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my dearly loved Son. Listen to him.”…
How did TreVeyon Henderson perform during his first year with the Patriots?
A solid running game is always the foundation of successful offense. The Patriots lacked in that department despite boasting players like Ezekiel Elliott and Rhamondre Stevenson on the team.

After the Patriots parted ways with Elliott, they looked for an explosive rusher in the draft. Their search led to Henderson. The Ohio State alum was coming off a 1000+ yard and 10 touchdowns season while sharing snaps with Quinshon Judkins.
The Patriots drafted Henderson 38th overall in 2025. He walked into a similar role at Foxborough. The news did not excite him.
I was smiling but my heart sunk at the time because like during the draft process everyone was telling me like Patriots is the last team, the last one you want go to. I’m believing whatever they said, you know I’m trying to dodge the Patriots at all costs. But then I got picked by them. Man it was such a crazy moment.

Stevenson, who signed a four-year, $36 million contract extension, was designated as the lead back. An injury in Week 8 to Stevenson opened the door for Henderson to get more playing time. Henderson racked up 180 carries for 911 yards and scored 9 touchdowns. He also returned kicks, adding 209 yards on 9 catches to his tally.
The Patriots reached their first Super Bowl since 2021. Despite putting up a valiant effort, the Patriots lost 29-13 to the Seattle Seahawks. Henderson only managed 19 yards on 6 carries in the defeat. That said, he is expected to play an even bigger role in 2026.
