Barcelona youngster Pau Cubarsi, in a recent interview, backed his teammate and La Masia prodigy Lamine Yamal to the Ballon d’Or in the future. Cubarsi expressed confidence in Yamal’s skills, as well as his potential.
The Catalan club’s youth academy, La Masia, has been known to produce talented footballers over the years, including a host of former Barcelona stars like Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets. Pau Cubarsi and Lamine Yamal are among the new generation of stars, who have emerged from the famed academy.
Yamal, who is just aged 17, had already etched his name in world football, becoming the youngest player to win the Kopa Trophy and the UEFA Euros, while also being nominated for the Ballon d’Or.
Lamine’s Barcelona and Spain teammate Cubarsi shed light on his impressive rise over the last two years, confidently stating that the youngster could be awarded as the best player in the world in the future. He added that Yamal has the skill set to win the award, while also claiming that the forward is on a spectacular level in his career.
On being asked whether Lamine could dribble past him in training, Cubarsi cleverly answered that they did not face each other much in training.

Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi speaks about Ballon d’Or ‘controversy’, says he wasn’t surprised
Speaking to Spanish media outlet RAC1, Barcelona starlet Pau Cubarsi shared his opinion on the 2024 Ballon d’Or ‘controversy’. Rodri’s Ballon d’Or win did not hold well with many fans and players all around the world, who suggested second-placed Vinicius Jr. deserved to win.
However, Cubarsi, who was in attendance at the Ballon d’Or Gala in Paris, expressed that he was not surprised that the Brazilian forward did not win. Stating that it was a close call between Vini and Rodri, the defender noted that the Manchester City midfielder was a ‘good’ choice.
Moreover, Pau Cubarsi also reflected on his and fellow Barcelona teammate Lamine Yamal’s experience in attending such events at a young age. He stated that both of them have been living through it calmly, while also considering it to be a schoolyard.
