Although Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray haven’t announced anything about extending their partnership, reports have emerged that they will be working together till this year’s Wimbledon. Paul Annacone, the former coach of several Grand Slam winners, including Roger Federer, discussed the biggest question he has about Murray.
Djokovic added Murray to his team last year a few months after the Scot’s retirement at the Paris Olympics. Murray wasn’t in Brisbane where Nole kick-started his campaign for the 2025 season but he joined Djokovic in Melbourne for the Australian Open.
Djokovic reached the semifinals but a hamstring injury didn’t let him continue the match he was playing against Alexander Zverev. After his exit, he had said in the press conference that he and Murray would sit and talk about the future when things cool down a bit. Murray now deciding to extend his collaboration with Djokovic surprised Annacone as he lauded the three-time Grand Slam champion for his passion for competition.
To me the biggest question isn’t about them, it’s kind of about Andy. I am just surprised Andy wanted to get back in this quickly. I thought he would take a moment and a breath and sort things out, but it shows us all about his passion. He wants to help so much and be part of something and he loves competing and this is a way he can compete.
Paul Annacone told Tennis Channel
The 24-time Grand Slam champion stated in a recent interview that his injury is almost 100 percent healed and that he is planning to play in the Qatar Open which starts on February 17. Djokovic, who lifted the title in Doha in 2016 and 2017 (with a three-set win over Murray in the final), is set to make his return to the tournament for the first time since 2019.
Fernando Verdasco could coach Novak Djokovic at the Qatar Open
Andy Murray is expected to coach Novak Djokovic only in big events like the Majors. This only means that he may not travel to Doha for the Qatar Open. And if Serbian media outlet Sportsklub‘s reports are to be believed, then Spanish coach Fernando Verdasco could join Djokovic at the Qatar Open.

We decided a long time ago that I would be Djokovic’s coach in Doha.
Fernando Verdasco told Sportsklub
Verdasco lives in Doha occasionally and was the tennis ambassador back in his playing days. The report stated that Djokovic probably got in touch with him when he was in Doha the last time and asked the 2009 Australian Open semifinalist to help him.
The 41-year-old Spaniard has worked with three-time Grand Slam finalist Ons Jabeur and compatriot Alejandro Davidovic. Djokovic is in Doha right now and Sportsklub stated that he already had his first training session.
