Things are not looking good for the Toronto Maple Leafs and their forward Mitch Marner. After another poor performance in Game 4, the Canadian International found himself on the end of a huge verbal attack from Paul Bissonnette.
The former NHLer seemed unpleased with the gameplay of Marner. During the game on Saturday, the Leafs found themselves trailing 3-0 at the Scotiabank Arena at the end of the second period. This saw the fans loudly boo their team off the ice.
While discussing about Marner’s performance, Paul Bissonnette did not hold back and went on a fiery rant against him. The analyst, while reviewing the play of Marner, claimed that “he just is not playing any type of good hockey“.
I don't know if he is injured, but guys this is just pathetic. He's hasn't won a battle all series... He's not bending his knees, no real true battle in front. Yeah, he takes a little bit of a whack, looks at the referee, so disengaged... He's just not playing any type of good hockey. He's losing every puck battle.Paul Bissonnette said.
Biz Nasty though was not done there. After slamming the 26-year-old winger during the intermission period, he would go on to call him out again on X. In a tweet, Bissonnette would urge the team to “get Marner off the ice“.
Get Marner off the ice. I’ve seen enough. Unacceptable.
Paul Bissonnette on X.
Tempers boil on Maple Leafs bench between Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander
Despite Mitch Marner pulling a goal back in the third period, the Toronto Maple Leafs were unable to avoid going down 3-1 in the series following a 3-1 loss. The performance from the team on Saturday saw tempers boil over on the Leafs bench between Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, and William Nylander.
Late during the second period of the game, Matthews was spotted arguing on the bench. A shot later saw Nylander saying something back. Meanwhile, Marner was seen throwing away his gloves in frustration.
After the game, Marner would deny any frustration between the players and expressed that they are “grown men“.
I don't think there is any (frustration). We're grown men. We're just talking about plays out there that we all want to make sure we're 100 per cent in. Just a little off page there. We're not yelling at each other because we hate each other.Mitch Marner said as per Sportsnet.
Marner and his teammates are now on the brink of an early elimination from the playoffs. They will now need three straight wins against a team who has won 10 out of the 11 last outings between them in order to keep their 2023-24 season alive.
