Former NHLer Paul Bissonnette brutally slammed the New York Islanders for blowing a two-goal lead in a thrilling game against the New Jersey Devils. Saturday night’s game came to a closure after NY lost 3-4 against the Devils.

They blew their lead in the third period and failed to make a timely comeback in the OT loss. Devils alternate captain Jack Hughes drilled the final shot at 2:35 of overtime at the UBS Arena.

Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton played a crucial role in the team’s win as he blocked Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin’s side to give the team their 3rd straight victory. While the Devils’ OT win was a sight to see, the Islanders’ performance got a minus report from Paul Bissonnette

He talked about how the team has been performing in their “pathetic” state for a while and losing their leads. He even boldly commented that the team may be “allergic to leads” as they now stand just one spot below rivals New York Rangers in the Metropolitan Division.

The Islanders are allergic to leads. Never seen anything like it. Pathetic.

Currently, quite a few players on their team are on the injured list which made their long away games harder to win. With the current lineup, the team needs the correct strategy to utilize the blue line more. Their defense is getting the hit, and both the team and their opponents know.

Especially, having people like GM Lou Lamoriello and head coach Patrick Roy, it is hard to see them continue in their usual way. Both are competitive and surely won’t take the beating one-sidedly for long.

Islanders Patrick Roy comments on team’s performance in 3-4 loss

While New York Islanders head coach Patrick Roy was not as harsh as Paul Bissonnette, he still called out the players for their poor performance against the NJ Devils. He spoke about how the team did not utilize their first 40 minutes and ended up trying to play catch-up in the latter half of the time.

The current Big Three in the Islanders lineup are defenseman Noah Dobson, Ryan Pulock, and Scott Mayfield. They are playing overtime in the long road trip games and their fatigue may be catching up to them.

To make up for their weakness, goalie Ilya Sorokin stopped 19 of 20 shots against the Devils. Patrick Roy also complimented the netminder saying how he “made some great saves for us.” however, as for commenting on the third-period game, he did not tone it down.

I will be very honest.  Tonight, I’m disappointed for our guys. The first 40 was not our best…I mean, they had a lot of good chances…but in the third, we played hard, and we played well, and it’s too bad that we gave up a goal hitting our skate and it went in. That’s bad luck.

Patrick Roy said, as per Stefen Rosner of NHL.com

Islanders players also realized what went wrong and which move was to be used after their 3-4 loss to the Devils. Forward Casey Cizikas said that the game after the third-period “stings”, wishing “we could’ve gotten two [points] there.”

Patrick Roy further added how much he appreciates the players for doing their best despite playing “big minutes.” “Everybody’s giving what they could, and I thought they played well…our guys did a really good job,” he said.
