- Paul George returned from a 25-game suspension for violating the league's anti-drug policy and apologized for his actions.
- He cited improper medication for a mental health-related issue as the reason for his suspension.
- The Philadelphia 76ers are currently seventh in the Eastern Conference and hope George's return will help them secure a playoff spot.
It has been a rollercoaster ride for the Philadelphia 76ers and Paul George this campaign. His recent 25-game suspension stained his legacy and also some of the goodwill that he had with the organization, its players, and the 76ers fanbase.
With his suspension coming to an end, the 76ers forward spoke to the media and apologized for his actions on his return.
Being a pro athlete takes a toll on you, and my body wasn’t where I wanted it to be, and the expectation to perform because of my body not being where it needed to be. Obviously, I’m going to have an expectation for myself, and that’s what led the poor decision at the time. I’ve said it throughout my career dealing with mental health: I’m no superhero. I’m a human. And I made a mistake at that moment.

The 2025-26 campaign has been anything but easy for the 76ers. While injuries have always been a concern for their star players, Joel Embiid and Paul George, there was still a level of excitement heading into this season.
The optimism for this season rose when Tyrese Maxey elevated himself into one of the best scoring guards in the league. George was recovering from a knee surgery in the offseason and had missed the initial games of the season, while Embiid was dealing with his own injury struggles as well.
However, when the ‘big three’ played together, it looked like the 76ers could be serious contenders in the East. Unfortunately for the 76ers, Embiid continued to struggle with his body, and George was hit with a 25-game suspension for violating the league’s Anti-Doping Program. The 35-year-old cited improper medication for a “mental health-related issue” as the cause of his suspension, which did not sound convincing to some.
The 76ers are scheduled to take on the Chicago Bulls at the Xfinity Mobile Arena on Wednesday night to mark George’s return. With ten games to go, the club finds itself at seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings with a 39-33 record. The 76ers will be hoping that George finds his top condition as soon as possible, as they are just one game behind the Atlanta Hawks, who are in sixth place.
VJ Edgecombe excited for Paul George’s return
Following the injury to Tyrese Maxey, the 76ers have been without the services of any of their big three over the last nine games. They have fared decently as they have gone 5-4 during this period. George is the first one to mark his return, and it will be a huge relief for the 76ers as they have been shorthanded for the majority of the season.

76ers rookie, VJ Edgecombe, made his feelings clear on the return of the nine-time All-Star after his 25-game suspension.
It’s Paul George, man. He’s elite. He’s one of the smoothest players to ever touch a basketball. He’s a two-way player at that. So for him to get back on the floor means a lot. Especially after his time being out. It will be a lot for him to be back on the floor, and for me with my teammates, I just want to see them succeed, and see them happy in the right headspace.

The return of George is a huge boost for the 76ers as they try to break into the top six and secure a direct playoff qualification. Prior to his suspension, George was averaging 16 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.7 assists.
Paul George gives respect to VJ Edgecombe
Drafted as the number three pick in the 2025 NBA draft, VJ Edgecombe has been a vital player for the 76ers this season. Despite missing their key players, the 76ers have fared well in March, and a major reason for that was the play of their rookie.
In his press conference, Paul George was impressed with what the rookie guard was able to do so far this season.
I’ve been trying to just help him develop with slowing the game down, picking and choosing spots. It’s fun for me to watch his process right now, because a lot of stuff that we’ve been working on, he’s starting to pick it up, and it’s starting to be like second nature. He’s just such a phenomenal athlete. I’m trying to incorporate how to use his athleticism as well as his patience and seeing things differently. So, it’s been fun to watch.

It has not been an easy rookie season for Edgecombe. Without his star teammates, he has had to deal with a lot more attention from the opposition. But it looked like he is adjusting well and is showing positive growth. In his rookie season, the Bahamian international is averaging 16 points, 5.7 rebounds, and four assists, while averaging over 20 points in his last eight games.
