Paul George made his return to Los Angeles on Wednesday night to a surprising ‘welcome’. George spent five seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers before taking his talents to the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason. While George had been an integral part of the Clippers’ core which made the Western Conference Finals in 2021, he was subject to a stream of boos upon returning to his hometown.

Paul George and the Sixers took on the Clippers at the LA team’s brand-new home, the $2.1 Billion Intuit Dome arena. George had previously stated on his podcast that he looked forward to returning to play against the Clippers.

However, even before PG13 arrived at the Intuit Dome, Clippers fans had already prepared a ‘special’ welcome for the star. George was greeted with Bronx cheers from Clippers fans.

Paul George was certainly taken aback by the boos, as he had expected a warmer welcome from fans. Clippers fans added insult to injury with a number of placards taunting the former Clippers All-Star. The Clippers striking Fan Wall was filled with fans ready to strike down on George.

Clippers fans made their disdain for Paul George evidently clear with their not-so-warm welcome. Unfortunately for George, the fans would have the last laugh as a red-hot Clippers team thoroughly beat the Sixers 110-98.

George ended the game with 18 points on 7-9 shooting in just 23 minutes. However, the Clippers’ hot shooting allowed them to gain a strong lead in the second half, sealing the game.

Paul George expected a warm welcome back to his hometown after serving the team for five years. It’s safe to say that the ruthless Clippers crowd left George in some form of dismay for the rest of the night.

After the game, PG13 addressed the media about his welcome at the Clippers’ new arena. George was asked about his thoughts on fans booing him, and he did not hold back in his answer.

I mean, it’s stupid. I was a free agent. It wasn’t something that I demanded a trade or went against the team… There were cheers. I appreciate them. Those were the ones I played hard for. The boos, I didn’t get it.

Paul George told reporters following the game

Paul George expressed his disappointment with fans of his former team. The 8x All-Star believes he had been a ‘model’ citizen for the Clippers organization by never demanding a trade or going against the team’s locker room. George made the move to the 76ers over the offseason via free agency, following a number of injury-plagued seasons for the Clippers.
