Paul George calls out former coach Doc Rivers showering light on dysfunction within LA Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers, especially marquee duo Kawhi Leonard and Paul George had a frustrating 2019-20 season end. Giving up a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference semi-finals to Denver Nuggets, it all seemed to go downhill for the Clippers from there on. Recently PG 13 spoke about the dysfunction that was going within the Clippers organisation and called out former coach Doc Rivers.

Paul George and the Clippers are still dealing with lofty championship expectations this upcoming 2020-21 season. The franchise wanted to make changes in their roster and recently signed Serge Ibaka after losing JaMychal Green and Montrezl Harrell this offseason.

“Didn’t Feel like a part of the team” Paul George calls out Doc Rivers

Paul George took it a step further, adding some context and clarity to the Clippers’ apparent dysfunction on the “All the Smoke” podcast hosted by Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, putting the brunt of the blame on fired coach Doc Rivers.

“The way I was being used — Doc was trying to play me as a Ray Allen or a JJ Redick, all pin-downs. I can do it, but that ain’t my game,” George said. “I need some flow, I need some mixes of pick-and-rolls, I need some post-ups, just different touches. That last season was just hard overall.”

“I work out and train hard every summer,” Paul said. “This was the first summer I wasn’t able to do that because I had shoulder surgery. So I missed the whole summer of training. So when I came back, the team was already rolling… They already had a little chemistry going. I missed that time in the summer playing pickup ball, hooping, getting into rhythm, getting into flow, working on my game. So when I came back into the league and started playing again, I felt off. I didn’t feel like a part of the team.”

Having said that, PG13 missed 11 games in the previous seasons. As fresh as the new season is, it would be interesting to see how he and Leonard make adjustments in their game with the new roster to progress in the Western Conference.
