Paul George is going VIRAL for ‘failed promise’ to Clippers fans after trade to Sixers
Paul George recently inked a 4-year mega contract with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Paul George' old video resurfaced again
Former Los Angeles Clippers Star Paul George decided to opt out of his contract in the final year and leave the Clippers. He decided to sign a $212 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers. After this news broke out NBA fans took to social media to troll George after an old video resurfaced of him boldly stating that he owes the Clippers organization a trophy.
The video was when Paul George signed a contract with the Clippers in 2020 and showed his dedication to win the Clippers a championship. Fast forward to 2024, the promise turned out to be a failure as George wasn’t able to win one.
Paul George had boldly statedI owe them a trophy. That’s what I owe this organization. This is a window that we’re trying to capture. My commitment and my job is to bring a title here.
Some Clippers fans called George a liar and said he wasn’t capable of winning a championship even with the Sixers. NBA experts like Stephen A. Smith called George’s time with the Clippers a failure as he wasn’t able to win a championship alongside Kawhi Leonard. The duo of Leonard and PG were supposed to bring the Clippers their first championship but failed miserably. They even once squandered a 3-1 lead against the Denver Nuggets in the playoffs.
The video serves as a reminder of superstars’ commitments in the NBA and the unpredictable nature of fulfilling championship aspirations. Now with George signing with the Sixers, he has a chance to capture his first championship in his career.
The Clippers trade for Paul George might go down as one of the worst trades in NBA history
In 2019 the Los Angeles Clippers got Paul George from the Oklahoma City Thunder, in a trade which saw the Clippers give up a lot of assets in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Danilo Gallinari. They also gave up four unprotected first-round picks, one lottery-protected first-round pick and two first-round pick swaps.
The Thunder had already benefitted from this trade as they got Jalen Williams in the draft who finished second in the Rookie of the Year voting. But the biggest loss for Clippers was losing Gilgeous-Alexander who just finished second in the MVP voting next to Nikola Jokic. He averaged 30.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 6.2 assists in 2023-24, and was the court general for the Thunder.
Looking at this trade now, the Clippers’ gamble for George might have failed terribly with him now leaving the team. Meanwhile, the Thunder has got a great young core and with a few good steps can also win a championship in the future.
