Paul George still holds a grudge with Indiana for the most bizarre reason: “I’ve never gotten a tribute video”

Paul George is disappointed by the Indiana Pacers

Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George has shown different versions of his skills on each team. But the Indiana Pacers remain special. PG-13 started his career in Indianapolis after the team drafted him as the 10th overall pick in 2010. George played seven years with the Pacers before moving to Oklahoma. However, the star is not fully satisfied with the team as he still holds grudges for their treatment eight years later.

The Sixers visited Indiana on January 18 and faced an upset as both Paul George and Joel Embiid were absent. It marked the team’s 25th loss of the season but that is not the primary reason for George’s disappointment. Despite revisiting Gainbridge Fieldhouse multiple times after his departure, George has never received a tribute from them. PG spoke about the lack of acknowledgment from Indiana in an interview with Sixers Wire.

We were joking with the guys, and they were like, you know, ‘Do you still get a tribute video when you go to Indiana?’ I was like ‘I’ve never gotten a tribute video since I’ve been going back to Indiana’ and that was eight years ago. It does, you know, it sucks.

George believes the organization is bitter due to the unfortunate turn of events through his exit. But the star wished the team looked at the positives during the tenure. After the draft, George in a way took charge of the team. The 2013 most-improved player took the Pacers to two Eastern Conference finals. That is why George anticipated a token of appreciation for some banners that he raised.

While admitting his disappointment, George did not regret his decision and he stayed true to his reasons. During the final year of his contract in 2017, PG requested for trade. The situation turned messy between George and the Pacers. However, the team reportedly intends to fix George’s problem following the release of his interview.

Paul George left the Pacers for not acquiring the best power forward

George a few weeks ago explained the cultural difference between his current team and the Pacers on his podcast. The star admired Philly’s front office’s relationship with the players and coaches of the team. However, that was not the case in Indianapolis. George revealed the sole reason for his trade request was the disagreements he had with the Pacers front office movements.

In 2020, George was a guest on the Knuckleheads with Quentin Richardson and Darius Miles podcast. During the episode, George spilled beans about the details of his departure. Firstly, George was unhappy with the Pacers’ partition with Danny Granger and George Hill. But the team also disapproved of adding the ‘best power-forward’, according to George. That became the last straw.

After that phone call, I’m like, ‘They don’t get it.’ I called my agent like, ‘Man, get me up out of here’ They don’t want to win.

George later revealed that Anthony Davis was the power forward in question. George’s perspective seems fair, but the trade request created a cold war between him and the team. Along with PG, Indiana also does not seem to have moved on from the 2017 saga. But the star can certainly hope for a nod from the team during his next visit as the Pacers have quietly acknowledged his complaint.
