‘Bold’ Paul Pierce questions Lakers’ intentions about winning the championship if they plan on hiring JJ Redick and drafting Bronny James
JJ Redick was revealed as a 'front-runner' for the Lakers head coach job.

Paul Pierce talked about the Lakers hiring JJ Redick and drafting Bronny James
All eyes are set on the Los Angeles Lakers’ upcoming summer as the team is expected to make many changes for the next season. From hiring the new head coach to LeBron James‘ future and whether the team is the potential landing spot for Bronny James. The team will certainly have all the eyes of the basketball community.
As one of these decisions seems to be getting finalized, a clip from All the Smoke podcast of Paul Pierce has resurfaced. In the clip, the former champion was talking about the Lakers hiring JJ Redick as the HC. According to Pierce, Lakers’ current moves seem like a script, where the team is focusing on ‘putting on a show’ rather than attempting to win a championship.
Think about this. They hire JJ Redick, draft Bronny. Does this sound like something that's like 'we're tryna move in a direction to win a championship' or does it sound like 'we're tryna put on a show?Paul Pierce said
Pierce gave his honest thoughts as he believes that the organization is not focusing on winning a championship. Instead, the team is relying more on entertainment. According to Pierce, both moves by the organization will sell tickets and get the media talking about the team.
Pierce is correct to some extent, as Redick was revealed as the frontrunner for the coaching position. However, when it comes to drafting Bronny, many other teams have shown interest in the 19-year-old.
Paul Pierce compared JJ Redick to an Instagram model
Pierce’s statement on the podcast was not his first time to doubt Redick’s coaching capabilities. Just a few days prior to the episode being released, Pierce made some bold statements about Redick on ‘Undisputed’. Pierce opened up about the same issue on the show as well about the Lakers’ intention of hiring Redick.
Pierce talked about his own choices for the team including Ty Lue while he showed bitterness towards Redick. The Celtics legend then stated that the team should hire Redick because it ‘sound and looks good’. According to Pierce, Redick only sounds like a good potential coach but that is not the reality.
It's like a Instagram model. It looks good all on there and then when you see it in person, it ain't what you think.Paul Pierce said
Pierce doubted Redick’s basketball IQ, which, according to him, is good for the podcast but not for head coaching. Redick and James partnering up on the basketball court after their podcast would certainly be an interesting sight to witness. That, however, depends on James’ future plans.
