The Indiana Pacers defeated the New York Knicks in the 2025 NBA Eastern Conference Finals. They won the series 4-2 to advance to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2000. Tyrese Haliburton, Pascal Siakam and Myles Turner were all successful in outplaying Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby. Paul Pierce has been watching all of this unfold with all the enthusiasm of a true hater.

Pierce had several duels with the New York Knicks during his NBA heyday. He led the Celtics to a series win over the Knicks in the 2011 playoffs. Although he lost to the team in the 2013 playoffs on a declining Celtics team, Pierce went on to join their crosstown rival Brooklyn Nets. The Nets finished higher than the Knicks the following season. The Knicks were irrelevant for essentially all of Pierce’s career, especially the 2010s.

The Celtics and the Knicks have the oldest legitimate rivalry in NBA basketball. These two storied franchises keep running into each other at all opportune moments. They are also two teams geographically close to each other, and in the same division. Due to this, there is a lot of animosity between their fanbases. A part of this rivalry also stems from their rivalries as towns and cities.

Paul Pierce embodies this rivalry to the fullest. As a 19-year NBA veteran who spent 15 of those seasons on teams that hate the Knicks, Pierce is thoroughly enjoying their playoff exit. He’s spending a ton of free energy on trolling the New York fanbase. His latest Instagram video adds on to his constant pestering of the team. Pierce started the video with a pacifying air, but then went on to flip the script near the end.

You had a good year, Knicks. You got something to build on. Y’all beat the Celtics this year. You’ve gotta add some pieces. Obviously, you’ve gotta get some depth. But nobody expected y’all to get this far. So, you know, you gotta build on that. Y’all look good, y’all made it to the Conference Finals…*laughs profusely

Paul Pierce walked 18 miles to the FS1 studios after losing a bet against the Knicks

We know that Pierce’s hate for the Knicks runs deep because of the circumstances he’s had to put himself through because of the team. He had a lot of faith in this year’s Celtics team’s ability to repeat their 2024 championship. However, the team did not pay him back in kind for this faith. After losing game 1 against the Knicks with a 20-point meltdown, the Celtics looked vulnerable.

However, Pierce’s bravado shone through on the FS1 segment on the following day. Pierce bet on FS1 that he would walk all the way from his LA home to the studios if his Celtics lost game 2. Pierce was a guest on the daily FS1 sports show Speak alongside host Joy Taylor on Wednesday. Pierce had faith in his former team to pull off a game 2 win and level the series.

Addressing Keyshawn Johnson and Ric Bucher alongside him in the studio, ‘The Truth’ made a boisterous and confident bet, promising to walk all the way from his home to the FS1 studios while wearing slippers and his bath robe. After the Celtics lost game 2, Pierce made good on his promise, filming his long walk to the FS1 studios.

On his road to the offices, Pierce ran into Kevin Garnett, who gave him encouragement on finishing his bet. This moment will forever be remembered by the streets in NBA lore.
