Luka Doncic and Larry Bird

Recently, the Boston Celtics and NBA legend Paul Pierce, gave his opinion on the Larry Bird and Luka Doncic comparisons. He is of the opinion that while both are masters of the game, Bird has the upper hand on Doncic, and the comparisons need to stop.

Luka Doncic is currently prowling on the foothills of greatness, while according to Pierce, Larry Bird is one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He also argues that while Doncic is an amazing passer of the ball, Bird was better. Let us look at the scoring averages of these two greats and see who fares better.

I think Luka's carving out his own niche. He's been first team All-NBA four times. He could win a championship this year. He's on his way to being an all-time great. But we're talking about one of the Top 5 or 10 players to ever play the game. Can Luka get there? Numbers-wise, he's on his way. But Bird, three straight MVPs. He changed the game. He made us watch basketball.

Doncic averages 28.7 points, 8.7 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game in his career, whereas Bird averaged 24.3 points, 10 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game throughout his career. Bird has won the NBA championship thrice in his career, and he is also a 3-time NBA Regular Season MVP and 2-time NBA Finals MVP. Doncic, on the other hand, has nothing to match so far to match the accolades of Bird.

Have Paul Pierce and Larry Bird ever met?

In a surprising piece of information recently revealed by Paul Pierce, he said that he and Larry Bird have never met. Bird played for the Boston Celtics for 13 seasons, from 1979-80 through 1991-92, and in this time, he led the Celtics to 3 NBA titles. On the other hand, 10-time NBA All-Star Paul Pierce played for the Boston Celtics for 15 seasons.

It is quite surprising that despite such a strong association between the two of them they have never gotten face to face. Pierce also mentioned that since Bird didn’t show up to a lot of events hosted by the Boston Celtics such as the 75th team anniversary and title celebrations, he could not get a hold of him.

It is quite clear that Paul is desperate to meet his predecessor at the Celtics. It’ll be interesting to see when and if the two scoring leaders of the most successful NBA franchise get together.
