French midfielder and 2018 World Cup winner Paul Pogba is set to make a shocking return to football. Pogba’s four-year ban was reduced to just 18 months. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) recently announced its verdict, following an appeal made by the player.
Paul Pogba had tested positive for DHEA, a banned substance that increases the levels of testosterone, and was subsequently banned by the Italian national anti-doping organisation in September last year. It was during a match for Juventus against Udinese, where he was tested for the substance. After multiple tests turned out to be positive, Pogba received a lengthy four-year ban, which meant that he could not return to football until March 2027.
However, the former Manchester United star pleaded with the authorities that he had not breached the anti-doping laws intentionally and filed an appeal in the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne. In a major victory for the player, the CAS has now reduced the ban, meaning Pogba can resume his career in March 2025. In fact, the French World Cup winner has been allowed to start training from January 2025.

Meanwhile, the CAS report, which came out providing details of the verdict, supposedly stated that Pogba had taken DHEA, which only has effects on females. It remains to be seen what now lies ahead for the 31-year-old midfielder, with some reports suggesting a move out of the Serie A.
Paul Pogba speaks out for the first time after four-year long ban reduced to just 18 months
Juventus star Paul Pogba released a statement after his four-year doping ban was slashed to just 18 months. The midfielder spoke about his return to football next year, just months after contemplating retirement at the age of 31.
The ex-Manchester United star exclaimed that a nightmarish and distressing period of his career had come to an end and that he could now look forward to restarting his football career. Speaking on the ban, he informed that he had consumed a nutritional supplement prescribed by a doctor. Moreover, he confidently stated that he plays football with integrity.
Pogba’s future at Juventus, however, seems to be in doubt, as well as his integration into the team under new manager Thiago Motta. His career with the France national team also remains aloof.
