Paul Skenes recently opened up about the recent rumors surrounding him wanting to play for the New York Yankees. In an interview with Dan Patrick on the “Dan Patrick Show“, the Pittsburgh Pirates ace admitted being left “frustrated” with this.
Skenes has been one of the top performers of his team in the past couple of seasons. After winning the Rookie of the Year award in 2024, the right-handed pitcher clinched the National League Cy Young Award this season.
In another disappointing season for the Pirates, Skenes once again shone brightly. He went 10-10 in 32 starts and pitched with a 1.97 ERA. His 216 strikeouts were the joint 2nd most in the league. All of this made him an unanimous winner of this award.
Never a doubt.

During the course of the season, there had been several talks regarding his future. As his team continued to fail to provide him with run support, many fans demanded a trade of him.
A few hours before his NL Cy Young Award win, MLB insider Randy Miller dropped a shocking report. As per him, an anonymous Pirates star claimed hearing Skenes talking about wanting to play for the Yankees. It also claimed that Skenes has no confidence in his current team.

The 23-year-old shut down these speculations and report quickly. While appearing on a Zoom meeting via 93.7 The Fan, the former No.1 draft pick expressed that he had no idea where this report came from. He then expressed that his goal is to win in Pittsburgh with the Pirates.
"The way that fans see us outside of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh is not supposed to win. There are 29 fanbases that expect us to lose. And I want to be a part of the 26 guys that change that."

Skenes once again spoke on this. While speaking with Dan Patrick, the pitcher admitted that he was left frustrated with this report for a couple of hours and poured cold water on this.
I was frustrated for a couple of hours and then got over it and talked to the media later that night. It is what it is. There’s stuff that’s gonna come out, good and bad. Obviously, it’s not true.
