Paula Badosa recently revealed that she cried a lot when doctors told her about the severity of her injury. The former World No. 2, however, is not going to give up, which is evident from her appearance at the Madrid Open.
Ahead of her first-round match against compatriot Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, Badosa spoke in detail about her conversation with the doctors, who told her she wouldn’t be able to play. However, Badosa called herself a fighter, saying her stubbornness would help her in this case.
I have this personality, this character that it's like, 'I will still get through it, I will still keep fighting'. I'm like that, I'm a little bit stubborn.Paula Badosa told reporters ahead of her first-round match at the Madrid Open
Amidst her struggles with injury, Badosa wants to stay positive, even if the doctor’s words about her injuries are disheartening to hear. The 26-year-old also revealed how, on some days, negative thoughts lead her to doubt herself.
Sometimes you just don't want to accept what the doctor says, and you're like, 'For sure they're making a mistake'. I just try to stay positive. There are some days when I wake up, and I'm not feeling that well, and I ask myself, 'Is this worth it?'.Paula Badosa added
Paula Badosa treats herself every day
Paula Badosa suffered a thigh injury during last year’s Adelaide International 2. Then she injured her back during the Italian Open that year. Because of a back stress fracture, Badosa ended up playing just two matches after the Italian Open.
During a recent WTA Insider podcast, Badosa revealed how doctors told her during this year’s Indian Wells that it’d be difficult for her to continue her career. As she needed a solution, the doctor prescribed the cortisone injections. The Spaniard is now treating her every day and is hoping to play at least for a few more years.
I treat myself every day. So for me, being able to play – I don’t know, three years would be amazing.Paula Badosa said on the WTA Insider podcast
Badosa started this year at the Australian Open. Before the Stuttgart Open, she played at the Stuttgart Open, giving a tough fight to Aryna Sabalenka in the Round of 16, but retired mid-match. At the Madrid Open, Badosa remained unlucky again as Jessica Bouzas Maneiro defeated her in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
