- Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas ended their relationship in mid-2025 after a turbulent romance.
- Tsitsipas hinted at competitiveness in relationships, which Badosa reacted to with laughter on social media.
- Badosa is currently struggling with injuries and is aiming to return to the top 100 rankings before the Roland Garros deadline.
Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas finally closed the chapter on their turbulent relationship in mid-2025. Both have remained tight-lipped about the reason for the breakup, but Tsitsipas’ recent comment may have shed light on why the two split.
‘Tsitsidosa’, the nickname given to the then-couple by their fans, connected for the first time after the Greek ace messaged the Spanish ace after her win over Ons Jabeur in the 2023 Italian Open. They confirmed their relationship by sharing a Spotify playlist and also created a joint Instagram account.
About a year later, both confirmed that they had “amicably parted ways“. But the separation did not last long as they got together within three weeks after announcing the breakup.
A year later, they parted ways again. Badosa, on her 28th birthday on November 15th last year, shared a picture on Instagram wearing a sash that read, “sexy and single“. This January, the 27-year-old went public with his new girlfriend, Kristen Thoms, a former college tennis player.
The clay swing is underway across Europe. Badosa has already started her campaign at the Charleston Open, while Tsitsipas will begin his run at the Monte Carlo Masters. Ahead of the tournament, Tsitsipas answered a few questions from Tennis Legend. The first question was whether Tsitsipas wanted a tennis girlfriend or a non-tennis girlfriend.
Non-tennis girlfriend. Trust me. Even if you don’t want to admit there’s competitiveness, there’s always competitiveness.

Tennis has seen both. Many professional players have broken up, and many have tied the knot, with one example of the latter being former World No.1s Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi, as well as Roger Federer and Mirka Federer. Fans also gush over the couples who are currently competing on the tour, such as Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils, and Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter.
Paula Badosa opens up about her injury woes
The tennis world is well aware of Paula Badosa‘s sufferings due to her chronic back issue, due to which she frequently used to take cortisone injections to relieve pain. But the reason behind her withdrawal from the 2025 US Open was a torn labrum in her right hip.

People don’t know. A lot of people have been asking me about the back, and that’s something I’m trying to figure out, but it’s at least under control. It’s not that now. Last year, starting in February and especially after Wimbledon, it was my psoas touching the tendon. But then I broke my labrum. It’s all very connected, but it’s tough to compete like this.
Paula Badosa said in the pre-tournament press conference at the Charleston Open
Badosa returned to the tour at the Brisbane International and has yet to reach a quarterfinal in a tour-level event. In the Charleston Open, Anna Kalinskaya beat her in straight sets in the fourth round.
I didn’t know if I had the strength to fight again because I know what it is to come back from an injury, from zero. It’s like a mountain sometimes, and to get back to the level I want to get is difficult. For me, it was very tough seeing myself like that. Personally, I’ve been through difficult times, and it wasn’t easy because it came all together.

The former World No.2, who currently sits in the 102nd spot in the live rankings, has received the wildcard for the Linz Open. This is the last chance to get back into the top 100 and secure a main draw berth for Roland Garros because the deadline is April 13.
