Appearing for the first time since UFC 253, Paulo Costa says he is still focused on his goal of becoming champion. Costa got the taste of defeat for the first time in his MMA career when he lost to UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya via TKO in Round 2.

Costa took to Twitter to thank everybody for their wishes and vowed to come back stronger and smarter. He admitted to having some mistakes and says that he will come prepared better to achieve his ultimate goal- winning the UFC Middleweight Championship.

Costa couldn’t even land a clean punch

Paulo “The Eraser” Costa loss to long time rival and middleweight champ, Israel Adesanya was humiliating. The challenger had made his way to the championship fight with 13 wins to his name, but couldn’t even make a clean punch during the fight.

Costa, a Brazilian native, was not able to unleash his inner beast in the title fight but however, vowed today to come back “stronger, wiser and smarter.”

“There were some mistakes. We have taken care of that now. I am not here to make excuses. Something happened, but it doesn’t matter. I’m focused on my goal. Thank you everyone. God bless you.” Costa(13-1) will be looking to bounce back from his loss at UFC 253.

Costa’s explosiveness and stand-up game have always been rated as being commendable. Thus, the Brazilian has wins over top Middleweight fighters like Yoel Romero, Uriah Hall and Johny Hendricks. His 13 wins have come from 11 KO’s, 1 submission and just 1 decision.

What’s next for Paulo Costa-

Costa will look back to come to winning ways in his next fight. There are no fighters in mind right now who will be looking to fight Costa. But Costa will surely try and come back stronger. Costa might just get another shot at the title if he wins his next 2-3 fights over someone from top 5.
