Nine years after he had seized an opportunity to hit with idol Rafael Nadal during a practice session, 29-year-old Pedro Cachin finally played his first-ever tour-level match against the Spanish legend.

Surprisingly, Nadal was the underdog in this matchup when it came to both the rankings and the forms the players were in. Despite this, Nadal brought his best weapon, the forehand, and used it to perfection to take the first set 6-1.

Cachin, still oozing with confidence after his second-round victory against Frances Tiafoe, stepped it up and gave no free points to Rafael Nadal, taking the second set in a tiebreak after countless set points had come and gone.

The match, however, went the Spaniard’s way in the end, 6-1, 6-7(5), 6-3, after he broke the Argentinian twice in the final set. As the two players shook hands at the net, Pedro Cachin innocently asked Nadal if he could have one of his shirts to commemorate the day his dream came true.

Could I have a shirt or something of yours? You have fulfilled a dream of mine?

Nadal, gentlemanly as ever, strode over to his bag, grabbed a fresh shirt, and presented it to Cachin, who well and truly deserved it.

Not many fans grow to a level where they can compete with their idols and take away souvenirs, but this is one such case and fans are glad to have witnessed the heartwarming moment.

Baby Rafa makes yet another guest appearance to cheer on Dad!

It may be Rafa Nadal’s last year on Tour, but his son Rafa Jr. is surely competing with him with regards to charisma and celebrity status.

The one-year-old was seen on court for the first time ever at the Madrid Open, where he was completely engaged in his dad’s match in the first round. Clips of his cute reactions went viral, and netizens couldn’t get enough of the little one.

The new celebrity in the block blessed fans once again, making a guest appearance during the third set of Rafa Senior’s match. This may have just given Nadal the boost that was required to come out on top.

Nadal’s entire family is in Madrid, cheering him on in every match. All of them were present in the stands today, with the ladies, including his wife, sister, and mother, sitting in the front row seats and his father sitting in the player’s box with the coaches and trainers.

Baby Rafa joined the ladies in their VIP seats to get the best view and returned just that to the fans as he was on the screens in virtually every break.
