Carlos Alcaraz has made another Grand Slam semifinal. In the ongoing Australian Open, the Spaniard booked a spot in the last eight after cruising past home favorite Alex de Minaur.

Alcaraz, in fact, had never reached the semifinals at Melbourne Park before this season. In the previous two seasons, the six-time Major champion progressed to the quarterfinals, losing in four sets both times, to Alexander Zverev in 2024 and to Novak Djokovic last year.

In the upcoming match, the 22-year-old will be clashing with Zverev, who knocked out 2025 Next-Gen ATP Finals champion Learner Tien. If Alcaraz beats the German and later in the final goes past two-time defending champion Jannik Sinner or Djokovic, he will become the youngest man in the Open Era to complete the Career Grand Slam, surpassing Rafael Nadal, who achieved this at 24 after winning the 2010 US Open.

In the other semifinal, Sinner will be hoping to improve his head-to-head record over the 24-time Grand Slam champion to 7-4 as well as register his sixth consecutive win over Nole. If Sinner wins another title, he will join Djokovic to become the second man in the Open Era to complete a three-peat in the Major Down Under.

Fans react after Peggy Gou was spotted cheering for Carlos Alcaraz during his quarterfinals clash

When Carlos Alcaraz was clashing with Alex de Minaur, South Korean DJ and songwriter Peggy Gou was watching him from his player’s box, and as expected, this sparked dating rumors. Though it’s not clear whether Alcaraz indeed is dating Gou, the 34-year-old is set to headline the AO Live event on Sunday before the men’s final.

Following his win over de Minaur, Alcaraz was also asked about his friendship with Gou.

Yeah, she’s a friend. Yeah, I mean she’s really, really cool and, I mean, I better win next round if I want to see her playing. I’m just happy to see her around and, yeah… I’ve got great support from her, which is really, really cool. Hopefully, I’ll watch her playing on Sunday.

Before arriving in Melbourne, Alcaraz participated in an exhibition event in South Korea, where he beat Jannik Sinner. But prior to the match, he had a dinner date with Gou in Seoul.

Carlos Alcaraz sends a warning to Alexander Zverev before the Australian Open semifinal

Alcaraz holds a 6-6 head-to-head tie over Zverev and won their last meeting in the semifinal of the 2025 Cincinnati Masters. The three-time Grand Slam finalist, apart from last year’s Australian Open final, also reached the title clash of the 2020 US Open and the 2024 French Open, losing them to Dominic Thiem and Alcaraz, respectively.

I’ve watched his matches through the tournament. It’s impressive the level he’s been playing so far, so it’s going to be a great battle. I know that he’s serving pretty well. He’s playing really solid and aggressive when he can in the rallies from the baseline. I will be ready, for sure. I’m excited about playing him here [at the] AO in a semi-final. I know what I have to do. I will be well prepared for that match. If he wants to beat me, he has to sweat a lot.

Carlos Alcaraz said at the press conference

Alcaraz won the most titles on the men’s tour last year. He reached 11 finals and took home eight titles, including the French Open and the US Open, by defeating Sinner. At Wimbledon, the four-time Grand Slam champion denied him the three-peat and also denied him the win in the title clash of the ATP Finals. If both Sinner and Alcaraz reach the Australian Open championship match, they will set up a fourth consecutive Grand Slam final.
