While Sidney Crosby is obviously one of the best players in the National Hockey League (NHL), he can also throw a football. On Wednesday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins captain amazed the fans with a $1,000,000 throw at Pat McAfee‘s Big Night AHT show.
The variety show of McAfee took place at the PPG Paints Arena, home of the Penguins, on Wednesday. Crosby was joined on the stage alongside his teammates Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang. The forward would take part in a game where he had to throw the football through a target that was set at the end of the stage.
In this game, he went up against former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes. Each successful throw would add $1 million to the jackpot that a fan from the audience would get.
After Skenes failed his throw, Crosby stepped up. Before taking his shot, the 3-time Stanley Cup champion revealed that he did play football while growing up. However, it had been a long time since he actually threw one.
The veteran forward then stepped right up and made a perfect throw. The ball would fall perfectly in the target, leading to huge cheers from the fans inside the PPG Paints Arena. Chants of “MVP” also rang out as Crosby celebrated his throw. Check out the video below:

Sidney Crosby issues heartfelt statement following passing of ex-Penguins GM Ray Shero
On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Penguins mourned the passing of their former General Manager Ray Shero. Following the passing of the 62-year-old, Sidney Crosby issued a heartfelt message towards him.

While being the son of legendary NHL coach Fred Shero, he spent several years as the General Manager of the Penguins organization. When the time he joined the team, they were in a state of decline. However, the team already had stars like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, and Marc-Andre Fleury at that time.
Shero would then transform the team with his work as the GM. He played an integral part in the team’s 2009 Stanley Cup triumph.
In his statement, which was shared by the Penguins on X, Crosby spoke about the support he got from Shero as a young captain and expressed grief over his passing.
Ray Shero was a big part of my early days in Pittsburgh. He gave me a lot of opportunity as a young captain and supported me throughout his time. He did so much for our organization and my memories with him are special. I am grateful for our time spent here and that we were able to share a Stanley Cup championship together.

He would also work as a senior adviser to Minnesota Wild GM Bill Guerin. Apart from that, he also worked in the management team of the United States from the 2010 to 2014 Olympics.
Sidney Crosby congratulates career rival Alex Ovechkin on setting new NHL record
This past Sunday, a new piece of history was scripted at the UBS Arena, home of the New York Islanders. Sidney Crosby’s long-time career rival Alex Ovechkin finally chased down the most goals scored of Wayne Gretzky. After that, Crosby would congratulate him.

Ovechkin entered the game on Sunday on the back of scoring 2 goals against the Chicago Blackhawks, which tied him for the record. In the second period of the game, he finally went ahead of Gretzky with his 895th regular-season goal.
Following the record-breaking moments, every NHL team released a video and shared a message towards him. From the Penguins, Crosby congratulated his rival and called it an “honor” to compete against him all these years.
Ovi, it’s been an honor to compete against you for all these years. Over that time, you’ve accomplished so many milestones, but this one was probably thought to be impossible, and you found a way to do it. Congratulations on scoring the most goals in NHL history. Hope you have a great night celebrating with your friends and family. Congratulations.
