Penn State head coach James Franklin secured a memorable come-from-behind win over the USC Trojans on Saturday, and his players wanted to rub it in their faces in the most humiliating way possible. The Nittany Lions were ready to plant their flag to announce the conquest of the Trojans.
Several Lions players gathered in the center circle, celebrating with Penn State flags. After a short while, one of them gestured that he was ready to plant the flag.
However, amidst the pile of bodies emerged James Franklin, yelling at his boys to stop. While the huddle dispersed, the player who had the flag almost stabbed the field with its pole until Franklin snatched it off his hands.

Franklin gave the flag to someone else to hold it as he peered around to comb out any more troublemakers. Later, in the presser, he revealed the reason for his actions, which won him much praise on the internet.
That’s [USC] a very talented football team. We have tremendous respect for this university and this program. But we found a way to get a tough win on the road against one of the most talented rosters in the country.

At one point in time, the game seemed out of Penn State’s hands. Quarterback Drew Allar threw 3 picks, allowing the Trojans a total of 50 yards. Despite the choppy outing, Allar made plays through his star tight end Tyler Warren.

The 6’6″ senior set a single-game school record with 17 catches for 224 yards (second most by anyone in Penn State history) along with 1 touchdown. Franklin has witnessed the growth of Warren through the years.
I’ve been talking about him being the best tight ends in college football. But the reality is, he’s now part of a conversation of one of the best players in all of college football.

It was Penn State’s first game at USC since 1994, and even though the Trojans historically have had the upper hand, they couldn’t hang onto their advantage. Lincoln Riley’s team cruised to a 23-6 lead in the second quarter, which the Lions matched by the end of the fourth to force extra time.

USC’s kicker missed from 45 yards after the Lions’ brave defensive stand, and then field goal specialist Ryan Barker scored from 36 yards to secure the all-important win, increasing their tally to 6-0 for the season.
Franklin, who has been with the Nittany Lions since 2014, boasts a record of 94-39. Up next, Penn State has a bye week, and after that, they will welcome the Wisconsin Badgers to Camp Randall.
