It was a shocking affair for Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League as they blew away a 3-0 lead against Feyenoord to share the spoils at the Etihad. This was simply another extended chapter of City’s downturn that started with a defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup. To make matters worse, the Cityzens’ preceptor, Pep Guardiola was seen with scratches on his head and a cut on his nose after the game.

While he was asked in the post-match presser about the cuts and the scratches, Pep Guardiola said that it happened with his finger and his nail. One line of his that rung louder than the others was – “I want to harm myself.”

He later said that it is going to be okay and stormed out of the press conference. That comment of his also drew some serious flak about self-harm tendencies. However, later in a remark posted online, Guardiola clarified that he had no intentions of mocking anyone with such tendencies.

Things haven’t really gone well for Manchester City ever since they beat Southampton by a solitary goal on 26th October. After their defeat against Spurs in the Carabao Cup, they were beaten by Bournemouth, Sporting CP in the UEFA Champions League, Brighton and Tottenham again.

Erling Haaland got them the all-important lead from the spot in the 44th minute. Soon after the second half started, Ilkay Gundogan doubled the lead for Manchester City. In less than three minutes of the second strike from City, Haaland was back at it again as he scored his brace in the 53rd minute to propel the Cityzens to a commanding position.

Much to their shock, Anis Hadj-Moussa reduced the deficit for Feyenoord. Eight minutes later, blowing back life into the game, Santiago Gimenez found the back of the net for the visitors. Driving a stake through the hearts of Manchester City, David Hancko fired home the equalizer with less than a minute of regulation time to spare.

Manchester City craft unwanted record in UEFA Champions League with draw against Feyenoord

In an unwanted record, Manchester City became the first ever team in Champions League history to have led by three goals until the 75th minute mark and not go on to win. Somehow or the other, there has been discord in the team ranks and the defence has shown bigger chinks in recent times.

City has dropped down to the 17th position after their recent stalemate in the UCL whereas in the Premier League, they have dropped to the second position while falling behind by a staggering eight points from league leaders, Liverpool.

Hoping to get back on track, Guardiola and his men will be hitting the yard shortly on 1st December as a major challenge in Liverpool awaits them. With the game slated to be played at Anfield, it simply gets tougher for the Cityzens to leave a mark, especially in these troubled times.
