As Manchester City gears up for their upcoming Premier League season, with all the major pieces in place, they are once again building a unit that knows no relent and means business like always. One of their key factors in the last few seasons, Kevin De Bruyne has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia following the footsteps of several other starry footballers.
Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola cleared the air around any rumours circling the Belgian midfielder, asserting the fact that he is not going anywhere, at least for this season. He also went on to lambast the reports as blatant lies.
Pep Guardiola told the reporters ahead of his side’s first pre-season game against Celtic in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, “Kevin is not leaving.” Echoing his sentiment, famous football journalist, Fabrizio Romano took to X and highlighted the fact that whatever the rumor mills have been churning out, is nothing short of fake news.
Kevin de Bruyne was an instrumental part of City’s title-winning campaign last season, propelling them to their fourth consecutive Premier League triumph in a row and his sixth at the club. With 102 goals for Manchester City from 382 games across all competitions while knitting together 170 assists, KDB has imbricated himself in golden cast in the history of the Cityzens.
What lies ahead of Manchester City under the reign of Pep Guardiola?
Manchester City has their hands full in the upcoming days where they will be locking horns against Celtic, AC Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea as a part of their pre-season friendlies. Following which they will be playing against their city rivals, Manchester United in the FA Community Shield Final which will be succeeded by their opening clash in the Premier League against Chelsea.
Despite lifting the Premier League last season, City faltered in the final hurdle against Manchester United, falling short of the finish line in the FA Cup final. Pep Guardiola will once again be mounting a stern challenge for the quadruple to start with.
In order for him to see City deliver at their finest, he would need all hands on deck, particularly that of Kevin de Bruyne, the man who has been their chief architect in the midfield.
