As Manchester City pumped four past West Ham in their latest triumph, Pep Guardiola has made it clear that Jack Grealish will have to fight for his place in the side. The 29-year-old English international made 50 appearances during City’s 2022-23 treble-winning season, scoring five goals and carving 11 assists.
Much to his woes, however, he has failed to make the right noises in the ongoing season. Jack Grealish was dropped to the bench during Manchester City’s 4-1 win against West Ham. It was Brazilian international Savinho who made the cut in the starting XI. Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has made it clear that Grealish will have to show his very best to replace Savinho.
Savinho is in better shape and everything than Jack, and that’s why I played Savinho. Do I want the Jack that won the treble? Yeah, I want it, but I try to be honest with myself for that. They have to fight. You can say it’s unfair. If you think that, then it’s fine, but you have to prove [to me], ‘Okay, I’m going to fight with Savinho, to deserve to play in that position’, every single day, every single week and every single month. Two weeks ago, he was injured and he needs rhythm, and to play, but players need training.
Pep Guadiola told the reporters in the post-match press conference after Manchester City’s win against West Ham

The Cityzens registered a stunning win against West Ham, riding high on an Erling Haaland brace. Vladimir Coufal’s own goal saw City go ahead in the 10th minute. A double strike from Haaland across both halves almost secured the game for City. Later, Phil Foden’s final strike was more than enough to seal them the win.
Manchester City sets sight on Uzbekistan youngster Abdukodir Khusanov
In a two-horse race, Manchester City have joined Tottenham Hotspur to land Uzbekistan defender Abdukodir Khusanov. The 20-year-old center-back has been earning quite a few plaudits for his sturdy defending. On 2nd of January, Fabrizio Romano posted that Manchester City have set their sights on the RC Lens player.

Khusanov’s prowess in Ligue 1 has been exemplary, and in the ongoing season, he has played 16 games across all competitions. With 1219 minutes under his belt, he has proven himself to be a sturdy contender for the big suitors. The center-back pair of Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji for Manchester City has shown misgivings of late, and Khusanov’s arrival might be a handy boost for them.
