Pep Guardiola being responsible for a large part of Manchester City’s success in the modern era cannot be stressed enough. The Spaniard took charge of the Manchester club back in 2016 and has managed to etch his name in the history of the club with relative ease. From 6 Premier League titles to numerous FA Cups and domestic titles, the list goes on.
However, the manager recently gave reasons for concern as he admitted on the record that a move away from the club cannot be ruled out. After almost 8 years with the club, there is ‘nothing’ left to win for the legendary tactician.
I am closer to leave than stay. But I did not say I'm leaving.Pep Guardiola said (via The Athletic)
As he enters his ninth season in charge of the club, it must also be noted that he is in the final year of his contract. Earlier, it was reported that the club are yet to make progress on extending the 53-year-old’s stay at the Etihad.
Coupled with the rumored departure of star man Kevin De Bruyne, the club are in deep trouble if they are forced to let go of two of their most prized assets in similar fashion.
Pep Guardiola’s Man City lose to back-to-back games in pre-season
It isn’t characteristic of Pep Guardiola‘s men to lose back-to-back games at any point in the season. Despite it still being pre-season, City’s 3-2 defeat to Italian giants AC Milan turned heads on social media. Despite fielding a starting XI that featured Erling Haaland, Jack Grealish and Ederson Moraes, City found themselves trailing 2-1 in the 34th minute.
That being said, Haaland opened the scoring through a clinical finish up close thanks to a pass from Oscar Bobb. Two quick goals in succession for Lorenzo Colombo opened up the game for either side. The Italian was picked out by Samuel Chukwueze on both occasions, as he beat Ederson from close range, first from a header and second through a volley.
Even though James McAtee pulled his side back into the game, City tasted defeat for the second game running thanks to a late goal from Marco Nasti. Despite the score line, what caught the attention of fans the most was the fact that both sides changed jerseys in the second half. The kits worn in the opening 45 minutes were donated to charity.
