Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola responded to criticism aimed at his six-finger gesture towards Liverpool fans. This comes after he was compared to the likes of Jose Mourinho, who had lost his cool in a similar incident previously.
Pep Guardiola was mocked by fans at Anfield during Manchester City’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool over the weekend. The Liverpool fans even chanted about him getting sacked in the morning as Man City are on a seven-match winless run in all competitions.
Guardiola, however, responded by making a six-fingered gesture to remind Liverpool fans of the six Premier League titles that he has won with Man City. It subsequently led to a controversy, as many opined that he might be losing his cool amid the club’s poor form.
The Catalan responded to these claims by stating that he was never cool throughout his managerial career. He said that he remains cool only when the team wins and has the opposite reaction when they lose.
It remains to be seen whether Guardiola can lead Manchester City out of trouble and put them back in the EPL title race. His recent gesture, however, reminded fans of ex-Manchester United boss Mourinho’s three-finger salute toward Tottenham Hotspur fans six years ago.
Pep Guardiola dismisses rumors of a rift between him and Manchester City’s star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne
Pep Guardiola dismissed suggestions from many football pundits of a rift between him and Kevin De Bruyne this season. The rumors emerged after the 33-year-old, despite making a return from injury, failed to make it to the starting XI in City’s 2-0 defeat to Liverpool.
De Bruyne had to wait until the 78th minute to feature against Liverpool. This led to many speculating that he might have gone out of favor. The speculations were, however, brushed aside by Guardiola, who stated that he could not have a problem with a player who has helped him the most to succeed at City.
De Bruyne has been linked with a move away from Man City recently. In case he fails to regain his past form, he could very well be on his way out next summer, with several Saudi Arabian sides reportedly interested in signing him.
