Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has struggled to inspire his side to victories in recent games. Despite his most recent game in charge ending in a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest, a certain moment during the defeat to Liverpool stood out.

The Spaniard emulated rival and former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho as he held up six fingers to the crowd. This was done in response to the Liverpool crowd chanting ‘sacked in the morning’ at the manager.

While Mourinho retaliated by drawing attention to the legitimacy of Guardiola’s six titles, citing the 115 chances, the latter has now responded. Pep Guardiola and Mourinho have been part of some iconic rivalries, especially during their clashes in La Liga and the Champions League.

If I’ve offended him, I’m so sorry. It was a joke. But the fact is that he has three and I have six. That is a fact.

The City boss has a monumental task at hand to salvage his side’s season. Currently sat in 4th position, City has 26 points from 14 games. The club’s next game in the League is against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Ahead of the clash on Saturday, the manager spoke of fitness issues in the squad and of the players likely to miss the fixture. To begin with, both Phil Foden and Manuel Akanji will miss the game against the Eagles.

The No.47 missed the game against Forest due to illness while Akanji was subbed off halfway into the fixture. Besides these two, the club will also be without Mateo Kovacic and John Stones, alongside long-term absentees Oscar Bobb and Rodri.

Most importantly, City risk missing out on Kevin De Bruyne as the Belgian’s fitness still remains a question mark. Even though the midfielder started the game against Forest, it has been no secret that the 33-year-old has struggled to maintain fitness. As the club navigates an injury crisis, unlikely heroes in the form of Jeremy Doku and his partnership with Erling Haaland really need to deliver.
