Manchester City won just its second game in the last ten outings in all competitions as players, fans and management breathed a sigh of relief. Leicester City was on the receiving end of a 2-0 triumph as goals from Savinho and Erling Haaland saved the day for the Cityzens.
With the win, City broke free of the losing streak, in which the defending champions went winless in the last four Premier League matches. City desperately needed all three points going into the game, and despite initial pressure from the hosts, the opening goal came through Savinho.
The Brazilian scored his first goal of the season for Manchester City after signing for them back in July 2024. The 20-year-old claimed his goal from a rebound as he beat Jakub Stolarczyk at his near post.

He then went on to set up star striker Erling Haaland for a headed finish from close range. Home fans blamed Jamie Vardy for missing several chances in front of goal against the reigning League champions. Following the game, manager Pep Guardiola refused to celebrate the win.
As things stand, Manchester City is in fifth position, with 31 points from 19 games. At this point, the club should focus on finding consistency and getting the UCL spot as they cannot challenge for the EPL this season.
Pep Guardiola heaps praise on 22-year-old old star following important win
It isn’t common practice that Pep Guardiola heaps praise on his substitutes after a win. The Spanish tactician introduced a 22-year-old Englishman in the second half as City needed to clamp down on its one-goal lead.
Introduced to the game after subbing off Phil Foden, James McAtee did incredibly well to set the stage for Haaland’s goal. McAtee impressed City supporters, including Pep Guardiola himself as he carried the ball near the touchline, beating two of his markers with relative ease.
?✨ Pep Guardiola: “I’ve no doubts on McAtee, at all. He didn't make one wrong action! So mature”.

“He's a guy from a generation we had that's been unbelievable; Romeo Lavia, Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers, Liam Delap, Taylor Harwood-Bellis… incredible generation here at City”. pic.twitter.com/WMOXcxr8mz
The player was then made to face the away fans as they applauded his second-half performance. Following the game, Pep Guardiola hugged the player as he spoke emphatically about his performance.
City’s next game in the Premier League is against West Ham United while Salford awaits in the third round of the FA Cup. Fans around the globe are hoping that City finally manages to turn things around after a losing streak this season.
