Pep Guardiola is being deemed as one of the most revered coaches in world football and under his reign, Manchester City has been on a conquering spree for the last four years. Apart from their unparalleled dominion in the Premier League, his stint in Europe has been equally impressive. However, if there is one man who is not impressed by Guardiola’s brand of football, that is Tim Howard.
The former USA shot-stopper, Tim Howard believes that Pep Guardiola plays a certain kind of football which cannot be executed by most. Apart from a handful of teams, it is only a dream for the others to deploy such a brand of gameplay. On the contrary, the former USA goalkeeper believes that Mauricio Pochettino actually has a much better style of football which the others can quickly adapt to.
I think what has happened is that, in every sense, Pep Guardiola has ruined football. Guardiola has taught everyone that they can play ‘expansive football’ (positional football). That’s not the case. Not everyone can do it, only three teams in the world can do it really well. If you look at (new USA coach Mauricio) Pochettino’s best teams, Tottenham played with two lines of four and two up front. And then when they broke down, they broke down with four players, they let them express themselves.

Despite what Howard had to say, Manchester City has been doing a fairly decent job under the reign of Guardiola. Most of the players who have been bought by the Cityzens have adapted themselves perfectly to the situation and with that being said, City continues to call the shots evermore so dominantly. Their last four Premier League wins are a blazing testimony to their unparalleled hold over England.
What does the future looks like for USA under Mauricio Pochettino?
USA men’s football team wasn’t exactly delivering the kind of payload that was expected of them. As a result of the mishap which saw them crash out of the Copa America and returning sub-par results, Mauricio Pochettino was brought in as their new preceptor. Their 67-year-old record against Canada was sullied in a mortifying 2-1 defeat.
The first assignment under Pochettino for USA is going to be a clash against Panama who defeated the States by 2-1 in the Copa America. Following their defeat against Panama, USA lost to Uruguay to crash out of the tournament. With the arrival of Pochettino, they will be hopeful of turning their luck around.
