Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has reportedly insisted the club sign Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes in the January transfer window. The 27-year-old Brazilian starlet is being considered a long-term replacement for injured Man City midfielder Rodri

The defending EPL champions have not been the same this season, having most recently endured a seven-match winless streak. City might have ended their recent slump with a win against Nottingham Forest, but several defensive issues persist.

Pep Guardiola’s side has been struggling since the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner and Man City number six, Rodri, sustained a long-term ACL injury in September. The Spaniard is out for the rest of the season, and the club is effectively looking for a replacement.

Despite several players being considered to fill the defensive pivot position, Guardiola has reportedly urged Man City to sign Bruno Guimaraes. It is no secret that the 53-year-old is an admirer of the Brazilian’s talent. City had previously attempted to sign him, but instead opted to bring back Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona.

The Newcastle skipper’s massive £100 million release clause could pose a hindrance. Recent reports also suggest that Man City is considering a swap deal involving midfielder Matheus Nunes

In case Guimaraes decided to join Manchester City, it could pave the way for Real Madrid to reignite their interest in signing Rodri. The Cityzens have also identified Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi and Atalanta’s Ederson as potential transfer targets.

2024 Ballon d’Or winner Rodri urges Manchester City to sign 22-year-old La Liga rising star

Euro 2024 star and Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams has been strongly linked with a move away from La Liga, with numerous EPL sides interested in him. International teammate Rodri, in a recent interview, urged Manchester City to sign the 22-year-old forward after having played alongside him at the Euros.

Speaking at the AS awards ceremony in Madrid, Rodri expressed his admiration for Williams. Moreover, he added that he would certainly welcome the midfielder at Manchester City. Rodri hilariously stated that he would also teach Williams about the cold weather in England. Williams was close to signing for FC Barcelona this summer, but the deal failed to materialize.

Yes, yes. Right now, if I was taking him, I would also be taking him to teach him a little bit about the cold in England, although it’s similar to Bilbao. I would take him with me without a doubt.

It thus remains to be seen what lies ahead for Williams next summer. Athletic Bilbao will be desperate to retain his services and has reportedly initiated new contract extension talks. Meanwhile, Arsenal and Chelsea are also in the race to sign the Euro 2024 star.
