In a move that many did not see coming, the Miami Marlins traded one of their top stars Luis Arraez to San Diego Padres. They would end up receiving relieverย Woo-Suk Goย and three prospects Dillon Head, Jakob Marsee an Nathan Martorella. After the trade, Marlins executive Peter Bendix dropped a blunt statement regarding this trade.

Arraez, 27, was one of the standout performers of the team last season. However, this year, things have not gone well for the team. The two-time World Series winners started off the season with a poor 0-9 record.

Prior to the start off the season, there seemed to have been some differences between Arraez and the team. The two parties were unable to avoid arbitration. Though he later won the case to increase his salary, there had been some trade rumors regarding him with the name of the Yankees being suggested by Jon Heyman as a potential suitor.

The Marlins now have to deal without the two-time batting champion. When asked about the future plans of the team by reporters, Marlins President of Baseball Operations, Peter Bendix claimed that the team might not make the playoffs this year.

We are unlikely to make the playoffs this year.
Peter Bendix said as per Craig Mish.

While many would go on to question the response of Bendix, things do look bleak for the Marlins. On Saturday, the Oakland Athletics would put 20 runs against them in a 20-4 demolition.

This defeat leaves the National League side with the third-worst record in the MLB so far (9-25). It will be interesting to see whether the addition of new faces from this blockbuster trade of Luis Arraez helps them out or not.

Luis Arraez shines in Padres debut against D-backs

On Friday, Luis Arraez was seen playing with the Miami Marlins and hugging his teammates in the dugout. A day later, he was rocking a new uniform. The Venezuelan International led the batting lineup for the San Diego Padres and made an instant impact.

In his first game for them, the second baseman went 4-for-6 while registering four hits. He thus became the first player to collect four hits in his Padres debut.

After the game, Arraez said he felt like he was in a “dream” after his first base hit turned out to be a double for the Padres.

When I hit my first base hit, my double, I said, โ€˜Here we go. This is amazing. This is amazing.โ€™ That was one of my dreams. Iโ€™m living my dream right now.
Luis Arraez said as per Michael Reynolds of MLB.com

The addition of Arraez to the team could be a big boost for the Padres considering they lost Juan Soto to the Yankees. The 13-1 win of them against the Arizona Diamondbacks improved their record to 18-18 but they still trail their rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers by 4.5 games in the NL West standings.
