Proving that age is just a number, veteran Australian pacer Peter Siddle achieved a remarkable moment during the 2025-26 BBL Knockout for Melbourne Stars, against Hobart Hurricanes. One of his deliveries during the match was measured at a speed of 145.8 km/h.
A member of Australia’s 2009 Champions Trophy-winning squad, Peter Siddle’s early career was plagued by multiple injury setbacks before he once again fell out of contention in 2014 due to a shift in selection focus towards faster bowlers in red-ball cricket. He returned to Test cricket in 2018 before ultimately retiring in 2019, concluding his Test career with 221 wickets in 67 matches, at an average of 30.66.
Throughout his BBL career, Peter Siddle has played for teams like the Renegades and the Strikers, before he came back last season to the Melbourne Stars, a team he helped establish. The 41-year-old has been in resounding form this season, having claimed 16 scalps in 11 games at an average of 17. His impressive season with the Stars has also featured two three-wicket hauls against the Hobart Hurricanes and the Sydney Thunder.
Having guided the Melbourne Stars to the BBL Finals, his team met the Hurricanes in the Knockout fixture. The match at Bellerive Oval was reduced to just 10 overs due to rain, with Hobart setting a total of 114/5, helped by a crucial 47-run innings from Beau Webster. Meanwhile, Peter Siddle finished his two-over spell wicket-less, but captivated fans and commentators alike by delivering a sharp yorker to Nikhil Chaudhary off the fifth ball of the eighth over.
The delivery clocked a whopping 145.8 kilometers per hour, leaving everyone in disbelief that Siddle could achieve such speeds at this age. The ball was so quick that Chaudhary could not get his bat to it, and the ball went past wicket-keeper Sam Harper‘s gloves for a bye. However, the Hurricanes claimed a three-run victory in the end, as the Stars failed to chase down a revised target of 85 runs in seven overs, despite Joe Clarke‘s 31-run innings.

Nonetheless, this result signaled the end of the Melbourne Stars’ journey in BBL 2025-26. Defending champions Hobart Hurricanes, on the other hand, will now face Sydney Sixers in the BBL Challenger for a spot in the final against Perth Scorchers.
Babar Azam departs Sydney Sixers to join national team camp, set to miss BBL Finals
Babar Azam has been called up to join the Pakistan national team camp ahead of their home T20I series against Australia, meaning he will miss the rest of the 2025-26 BBL Finals. This announcement comes right before a must-win Challenger for the Sydney Sixers against the Hobart Hurricanes.

The team officially confirmed Babar Azam’s departure in a social media statement, thanking the 31-year-old for his contribution to the Sixers’ run to the BBL 15 Final Series. In a separate statement, Sixers official Rachael Haynes explained that despite initial plans for Azam to play the whole tournament, the batter has now traveled to the UAE for a pre-tour camp to prepare for the Australia series and the T20 World Cup.
Babar Azam’s first season in the Big Bash League saw mixed results for him. Although he is the Sydney Sixers’ third-highest run-scorer with 202 runs in 11 matches, his batting has been inefficient, with a low average of just 22.44 and a strike-rate of 103.06. This poor scoring rate led to a major controversy during the team’s final league game, where Steve Smith intentionally refused to take a single with him.
Pakistan has not yet announced its squad for the upcoming T20I series against Australia or the World Cup. Azam, who holds the record for the most runs scored in the shortest format, might be included in the squad, having been excluded from the previous series against Sri Lanka.
