Petra Kvitova bags country’s Top sporting honor besides getting elected as the ‘Player of the Year’
Petra Kvitová is a Czech professional tennis player. Known for her powerful left-handed groundstrokes, Kvitová has won 27 career singles titles, two of which are Grand Slams, the Wimbledon Championships (2011 & 2014).
Recently, she was awarded the Golden Canary Award by the Czech Tennis Federation in association with the Tennis Magazine. The award celebrates the country’s top sporting achievements of the year.
Usually presented at a gala ceremony in Prerov annually, in view of the COVID-19 restrictions in the Czech Republic, this year’s award ceremony was cancelled.

This year witnessed, Kvitova reaching multiple Grand Slam quarterfinals in a season for the first time since 2012, and it also guaranteed her to return to the TOP 10 for the first time in nine months.
Although it meant that the two-time Wimbledon Champion failed to win a title this year, for the first time since 2010. Kvitova had quite a remarkable return to tennis, making the second week at all three Majors.
The Czech international got recognized for her 2020 achievements earning her another valuable award as she was named the Czech ‘Player of the Year’ for the third time in her career.
She had previously bagged the title following her title run at the Wimbledon Championships in 2011 and 2014.
