Ever since Aaron Rodgers signed for the New York Jets back in the 2023 offseason, the fans dreamed of playing in the Super Bowl once again. The status quo remains the same even after one year, as the veteran quarterback remained sidelined the entire season through injury.
Yet there are some concerns about Rodgers’ capability of being the same effective quarterback he was before the ACL tear. On top of that, the former Super Bowl MVP will turn 41 later this year, a time when most quarterbacks hang up their cleats.
Rodgers isn’t ready to retire just yet. Time and again, he assured everyone about his goals, as the Jets quarterback is adding a couple more rings to his trophy cabinet. His one-time rival and Hall of Famer Peyton Manning backed the 4x NFL MVP to succeed with the Gang Green and asked the fans to remain patient.
During Michael Rubin’s recent Fanatics Fest, Manning spoke on various subjects from host Stephen A. Smith, and one of them was about Aaron Rodgers’ situation with the Jets. The former Denver Broncos starter recalled his time joining the Mile High franchise in 2012.
When I signed with Denver, I was injured, but Von Miller, he did not wanna hear that. He said, 'No, no, no. You are still the Peyton Manning that I know.’ And I said that I gotta a lot of work to do, and he said you are gonna be there. I know Aaron [Rodgers] feels that way. They signed him to be a great player. He got hurt last year, and I think he will answer the bell this year.Peyton Manning said
Manning revealed looking forward to the Jets opening game against the San Francisco 49ers. He believes that the AFC East (Jets, Dolphins, Patriots, Bills) is a wide-open group and any team can win it.

Stephen A. Smith defended Aaron Rodgers
As Manning indirectly highlighted, fans will always have expectations, and Rodgers wants to keep his promise of winning a Super Bowl. However, does the 10-time Pro Bowler need to prove himself all over again to be called one of the best ever?
The recent string of controversies surrounding Rodgers has deviated people’s attention from his on-field greatness to off-field statements, judging him in a negative light. Some even questioned whether they should consider Rodgers as a great quarterback if he fails to produce results for the Jets.
Stephen A. Smith doesn’t believe that. The veteran ESPN contributor listed the accolades that make Aaron Rodgers a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
[A] multiple-time league MVP and Super Bowl champion has to prove? Because you know what, he’s been cleansing his body and going on vacation trips…and isolating himself in darkness for a few days. So he has to prove himself, right?Stephen A. Smith said on First Take per Jets Wire
The Jets won their first two preseason games without Rodgers. It’s more than likely that he will not feature in their final preparation game against the New York Giants because head coach Robert Saleh wants to protect his #1 for the regular season.
