We got, Daniel Cormier first, followed by Yoel Romero, then Ronda Rousey, Henry Cejudo, Kayla Harrison, Claressa Shields and now possibly, another Olympian making way into MMA. This time, it’s Tamyra Mensah Stock, the Olympic gold medalist of the recent 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Not only that, she’s the first black woman in freestyle wrestling to do achieve this feat.
Mensah Stock was recently seen at PFL 2021 season finals to support her boxing counterpart as an Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields. Before that, in an interview with MMA Junkie correspondent Danny Segura, Stock talked about her future in a potential MMA career.

“I am excited to see my fellow Olympians go out there and give their all,” Tamyra Mensah Stock told MMA Junkie before the event. “Me, however, right now I’m just enjoying my time here, I don’t know what the future holds, but I am looking at it and scoping it out…we’ll see where God takes me.”
“I honestly don’t know,” Mensah Stock said on considering the transition to MMA. “I will say that my uncle, Omar Henry, was a professional boxer, and I’ve been around the boxing area you know Claressa Shields, so I love watching boxing.”
“But I gotta learn how to throw a punch. I don’t know how to throw a punch. The last time somebody taught me I threw both hands in because I didn’t know what to do, so I honestly don’t know what it will take. Everything has to look dang-near superb to try and get me out of wrestling because wrestling I’ve been doing it for 12 years,” Mensah-Stock concluded.
The transition of a wrestler into MMA is not easy but not unsuccessful either, ask former UFC 2 division champions, Daniel Cormier and Henry Cejudo. How do you think of Mensah Stock’s transition, the first female Olympian from freestyle wrestling, another double champion!?
